Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden| RP Heavy |Beginner

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

For two years now, the sun has failed to rise above the jagged peaks of the Spine of the World. Trapped in a perpetual night and gripped by unrelenting blizzards, the people of Ten-Towns live in fear—fear of starvation, fear of the dark, and fear of something far older and colder than any mortal nightmare. The night stretches longer, the temperature drops lower, and each new day brings stories of missing travelers, mysterious lights dancing on the tundra, and something stirring beneath the ancient glaciers. But where others see doom, you see opportunity. Will you brave the howling winds and hunt the source of this endless winter? Will you uncover the lost secrets buried beneath the Reghed Glacier? Or will you fall to madness beneath the northern lights?

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Organized Play

Organized Play uses a standardized ruleset for character creation, leveling, and rewards. Every character plays by the same rules. Its strength is flexibility: bring your character to any table and jump right in. With tight rule adherence, every game feels consistent, fair, and ready for adventure.

Party notes

We currently have 3 players signed up and looking for the 4th to begin the campaign. I do not intend to stream this campaign. It will be a private campaign unless all players request and consent to it being live streamed on youtube/twitch.

Crowey

Lunga is serious about prep, has a grand vision in terms of story & world building, and creates hilarious NPCs. He's pretty quick at adapting on the fly to all the shenanigans of the dice and his players. He doesn't shy away from having edgier content in his games, which imo is cool & welcome.

DM Lunga takes great care, from artwork to music, making the session fun and memorable. We did a freaking Ocean's Eleven! How cool is that!

How to prepare

💻 D&DBeyond Account (free) https://www.dndbeyond.com/ 🎮 ForgeVTT account (free) https://forge-vtt.com/ 💬Discord Account (free) 🎙️A decent PC/Mac, mic, and headphones. - Audio is important. I do not recommend cheap staticky gaming headsets, for example. What ever you use make sure your audio is clear sounding and you have headphone, not audio coming through speakers causing feedback and echo. - Forge does require a decent PC or Mac. It does not have to be a top-of-the-line gaming PC, but a 10-year-old Chromebook won't cut it. - Chrome browser: While Forge can run on other browsers, using chrome minimizes glitches and issues. 📹 Cams are optional. Not required but welcome. 🤗 Good attitude and friendly demeanor. Gameplay will be done on Forgevtt, and our communication will be via voice chat on my Discord server. You will be given the invite to the server after you join the campaign and we have our initial chat. I usually have my cam on. Cams are not required, but feel free to turn yours on if you wish. Just keep in mind to be dressed accordingly, no nudity or flashing.

What I provide

📚 Most Source books for DNDBeyond: You will be able to utilize a wide variety of species and classes from my shared library. 🗺️ Colorful and detailed maps that I mostly create on Dungeondraft and Inkarnate. 🎮 ForgeVTT account as the VTT 🗣️ I try to do as many voices as I can. I am not a pro, but I try. 🤓 Years of experience as a DM 🎼 A wide variety of ambient music during the game 🕵️‍♀️ Custom tokens via AI upon request I am somewhere in the middle of Rule of Cool and Rules as Written. I am not a "stickler" and more often than not will bend the rules for the sake of story, fun, and enjoyment. There are some rules, for example, if you are a Paladin but want to run around doing things that obviously break your oath, I will bring in the rules for this instance.

Gameplay details

To preface this list. It should go without saying, but any kind of racism, misogyny, homophobia, hate speech, harassment, or otherwise mean and unkind behavior is NOT allowed at my tables. This is non-negotiable and will result in being removed from the game. When it comes to in-game characters, I do make dispensation for historically canonical species distrust, such as elves and dwarves, in LotR. Orcs are typically distrusted, etc. However, I do not subscribe to "all members of this species are evil and bad." Nor do I allow dog whistle behavior to be portrayed as "in character." Just use your head in these situations. With that being said, any of the other behaviors listed above are not allowed in character either. Intercharacter relations: ALWAYS talk to a player off table before making any sexual or romantic advances on their character. Consent is still consent, even in character. Violence: My games are played in the fashion of fantasy settings. These are violent worlds. There are mortal fights, death, and blood. That being said, I do not typically describe or include overt and gratuitous violence. Keep this in mind if joining one of my tables. Aftercare: I typically take 5-10 minutes after the end of a session and ask everyone how they feel and how it went for them. We can discuss it there, but if there is something that requires deeper discussion or is personal, players are free to DM me with that after the session. Breaks: I try to hit the "halfway mark" for bio breaks and such, but those will be fluid depending on how everyone is doing. Breaks are usually 5 minutes. Lines and Veils: These are discussed in Session 0, in the case you are a new player entering an existing campaign, I will relate the existing L&Vs to you in our first discussion when joining and you can add your input that I will bring to the existing players. Open Door: I allow a player to take time off for whatever personal reason they need for *well-being and safety*. This does not include "It's football season, so I need time off to watch the games", for example. The policy is not meant to be abused to pick and choose your social time, doing other things. Also, if the time off does not have a return date and a new player ends up joining after you leave and you choose to come back, I cannot guarantee there will still be room, but I will try to keep your spot open as long as I can. Session 0: This works and most typically do. We discuss anything and everything pertinent for everyone to have a good and safe time playing. This is a mandatory session if you choose to join the campaign. Star & Wishes: Purely voluntary. Not required or mandatory, but I will ask at the end of the session. X,N,O Cards: These can be typed into the ForgeVTT chat. I may not always see it immediately, so please say something to the effect of "GM, look at game chat, please" if I do not see it and address it right away.

How will character creation work

Character creation will be done in D&DBeyond. I will send you a campaign invite link once you join up. I will then import the character into Foundry when you have finished creating it and send you a ForgeVTT invite link. (for those who don't know, Foundry is the actual VTT and it is hosted on Forge. Terminology can be confusing lol. When you see Foundry/Forge they mean the same thing)
