About the adventure

🗺️ Uncover a continent spanning plot. 🐱🐺 Make unlikely allies. 👹 Broker peace between Waring nations or join a single faction. 🫳🫴 Have an active hand in determining the outcome of the campaign. Current Campaign Level: 5 The Mournland has fallen! The gray wall of mist has gone. The nation of Cyre is whole again. With the end of the Mourning, the land of Cyre is a blank slate for the nations of Khorvaire to claim. Will you help the Cyrean people claim their rightful homeland once again, or will you join another faction to claim what treasures Cyre might be hiding. Yet things are not so simple. The magic laws that once governed the world seem to have changed. It isn't only Cyre that has been effected by the Mourning's end. Reports from Karrnath speak of a revolt, not of the living, but of the dead. Darguun--the nation of Goblin's is devolving to civil war. The Last War looks nearly certain to return to the continent. Will you bring peace or be another agent of chaos? WHERE THE PARTY IS NOW: The party is in Kalazart and are the first to realize the Mourning is over. As soon as the many nations of Khorvaire realize Cyre is no longer a wasteland--there will almost certainly be war. YOU CAN EXPECT: Character driven plot Thematic rulings in the spirit of Eberron Tactical combat, logical consequences A Mix of Humor and Horror Collaborative Worldbuilding (e.g., help define unique taverns, monsters, or locations) Immersive Audio, Custom Tokens, Battle Maps Dozens of Kobold Press creatures, subclasses, and other enhancements -------- About The Return of War Campaign The Return of War is a homebrewed flexible campaign in which my players have dictated the creation of plot threads and consequences wherever they go. As the GM, I'm constantly surprised, just as much as my players, what happens next!

About me

🚵🏻‍♂️:6'0" // 38 // He/Him 🎲: Tales of the Valiant (D&D 5e),The One Ring 2e, Isle of Ixx, Warlock!, Mutant Crawl Classics, Quest, Land of Eem Hello there, traveler! It's me, DM Nors. I'm a fiction and TTRPG writer, cat dad, and avid soccer fan. I grew up acting in the theater, reading fantasy books (well, my parents read them to me until about halfway through high school: I'm dyslexic), and pretending I was Frodo hiding from orcs in the woods around my parents' house. My love of the written word has brought me to a love of all things Play-by-Post! If you love TTRPGs with deep narratives and exciting adventures but don't have the time to dedicate full sessions, PbP is the medium for you! As a fiction writer, I'm all about the narrative scope of a good TTRPG session. Like a short story or novel, every uncovered thread connects to a larger tapestry, if only your characters would follow it to its conclusion. That being said, I also have a love for Mutant Crawl Classics (a gonzo OSR with extremely lethal combat), so be prepared to use every ounce of courage and cleverness to triumph in battle. I have a list of published works both in fiction as well as game design for games like Quest and Warlock! I believe in real stakes for player-characters and enemies who look to kill as much as they look to run and save themselves from death. I love rules lite games that get out of the way of players creativity and let players be awesome without sacrificing the real stakes that come with a dangerous campaign and extreme adventures.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place on Shard Tabletop, the process is simple, and I can easily run you through it. I have also created a tutorial video. Once your character is made, I can easily find a reason for your character to join the adventure! Attributes will be rolled. I love using a "Hero" option for attribute rolls. This means a roll of 2d6+6 X7. Though there are only 6 attributes, you get rolls and the lowest sum is dropped. I like this Hero option because it makes players feel more powerful and interesting at level 1. I'm all about players doing cool, memorable things every session, so I try to present obstacles for each player to show off, even at level 1.

The current party

New players are asked to play Tales of the Valiant Characters. Character option sources include: ToV Player's guide 1 and 2. Anything Eberron specific--even if it needs to be added to the game manually. (I will add it).

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a mic, a Discord account, a Shard Tabletop account, and optionally, a web cam. Oh, and a sense of adventure and humor!

What Nors brings to the table

I use Shard Tabletop for all my 5e DMing needs! Character creation, maps, tokens, everything players need will be through Shard. Including Tales of the Valiant core books, Tales from the Waste Adventures, Prepared! Adventures, Full Kobold Press GM Subscription with their whole catalog of character options monster, adventures, magical items--the whole deal! While in game sessions, I'll be using custom maps, music, and definitely lean more toward the Rule of Cool than Rules as Written. My philosophy as a Dungeon Master is that everyone has more fun when players and their characters get to do awesome things. My inclination is to allow for creative storytelling even if it fudges the rules sometimes. After all--the point of the game is to tell a story together, collectively.
