About the adventure

🕯 A Summer Earned in Iron 🕯 Dragonlance-inspired Homebrew! Founded by Igmund Ignatius in his defiant march against The Winter's Rise, Igmundhael is the first settlement to survive the harsh winters of the region. It was hard-won, but this dominion over the dreary north unluckily awoke a number of dormant beasts, ready to scourge the land. The fury of dragonfire changed the very climate and nature of the north, and against the cold wrought-iron will of man, Igmund the hael stood indomitable against new foes, slaying each slate-scaled tyrant one after the other. Even now, an age later, the solidified charcoal body of their founder stands blackened and stuck to the center chamber of Haelheim, no one brave enough to remove it. They say that Castle Hael still pays homage to their progenitor, the once undefeated king. Now, very seldom visited by outsiders, Igmundhael is a country in the solemn north of Sepulker. It is incredibly mountainous and known for its abandoned, looming structures, those towers made of long worked stone and black iron that stretch beyond the sights of men, into the sky and among the once-eternal mire of grey cloud. Igmundhael was overcast, known to fluctuate between three equally dreary states of rain, light snow, and low fog—until summer broke. Now, the temperate settlements of Igmundhael, those few that are still inhabited, begin to replenish themselves and their cities. The land learns to thrive again behind their massive walls and within their fortresses with their slate-metal doors. Having stood the test of time, withstood an onslaught of drakes and monstrous foes alike, a new dawn awaits the people as the summer sweat melts away the wax blanketing the land. "A Summer Earned in Iron" is a long-term campaign set in an overarching homebrew world. This setting in particular is inspired by Welsh and Breton culture/legend, thrust into an anachronistic dark fantasy setting filled to the brim with intrigue, themes of life and decay, and what begins to emerge from the shadowy recesses of a recovering society. Imagine "Lord of the Rings", meets "The Last Unicorn", and then make it Arthurian Fantasy! Travel from far and wide northward-bound to see just how far the nation has come since surviving a harsh, dragon-filled winter.

About me

Hello there! I'm Fitz (they/he), and I have been a GM for about 10 years—4 of those professionally. I run weekly paid games, high concept one-shots, and have built up quite the tight-knit community over at what we like to call "Also Dragons". Most of the campaigns I run take place in an overarching homebrew setting, spanning different genres, corners of the world, and differing types of magic and technology. Together they paint a larger picture, each player adding a brushstroke.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will occur in call, to allow for discussion of potential backstory connections and to allow consistency with the rest of the party. Nothing worse than a player making a character they are passionate about only to find that it's not a good fit for the setting or the party! There are some other details around equipment and house rules that will be elaborated on in Session Zero and may inform some player choices!

The current party

Weekly sessions, every Wednesday at 6pm Pacific (9pm Eastern)! *Session zero/sit-in free for new players to get a feel for me as a GM <3

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Stable, reliable internet connection and audio quality required. Video preferred but totally optional. We will be using D&DBeyond for character sheets, and Discord for voice, video, campaign tracking, and battlemaps.

What Fitz♦️🍏Also Dragons brings to the table

I have access to all official content on D&DBeyond as well as animated battle maps which we will be using via a screensharing VTT method. I prefer this approach as I feel it best emulates an at-the-table feel and reduces the amount of tabs and things for people to keep track of!

Safety

How Fitz♦️🍏Also Dragons creates a safe table

Session Zero allows the players to take the floor, ask questions about the setting, make requests for content they would (or would not) like to see. We will get you oriented with the Also Dragons server, discuss house rules and general community dynamic, and go through content-consent checklists to gauge levels of comfortability with subject matter that may (but will likely not) arise.
