About the adventure

Join this whimsical and wonderful world filled with friendly goblins, spiteful pixies, and a menagerie of talking animals! This campaign will hit the spot for anyone looking for some fairytale fun! Many years ago, you attended the Witchlight Carnival. It was a wonderful and dazzling place! You snuck in as a child to see the grand performers and experience the spectacle of it all! But something, something very important, was taken from you. Now that the carnival is back in town, you decide to investigate. There is a mystery to solve at the heart of the carnival. This game is a fairytale, full of little guys, evil hags, and tricksy fey. You will be transported to the feywild domain of Prismeer to find your lost items and tasked to restore order to the land.

About me

Greetings and well met! My name is Sarah and I am excited to be here! I have been a DM for the past 4 years both for private games and for public games at libraries. I love guiding players through new worlds and helping them explore their characters. As a lifelong fantasy reader with a background in the performing arts, DnD has been the perfect creative outlet. I have also been a middle school teacher, which means that I am well equipped to wrangle even the most chaotic DnD players. A bit about me: I was born and raised in Arizona. I love science and have a biology degree. I worked as a middle school science teacher for three years before leaving with my fiance to travel the country for his work for the past couple years. I love Ghibli movies and am currently reading through the works of Brandon Sanderson.

Character creation

Creating your character

*Session 0 (was on 8/28): Have at least a character concept. We will take some time to introduce our characters and build a bit of shared backstory between them. I will do a walkthrough of Tableplop during Session 0 to help you learn how to use it. If you need help creating your character or using tableplop, let me know! I am happy to help through messages or even set up a free one-on-one meeting to guide you through the process. *Session 1. You must have a Character Sheet on tableplop by Session 1. Please create a Level One character using any DnD 5e content officially published by Wizards of the Coast. I recommend new players stick to the Player's Handbook (PHB). Stats can be point-buy, or you may choose to roll for stats at Session 0 using a discord dice bot. You may create characters using either the 2014 or 2024 rules. I will be using the 2024 rules to arbitrate spells, mechanics, and monsters. If you choose to use 2014 rules, you may choose to take an origin feat from the 2024 PHB instead of your background feat. *Your character needs to be an adult. There are magical spells in Prismeer that concern children and the campaign will not work if our party has child members.

The current party

So far we have two rangers (planned to be Fey Wanderer and Beastmaster subclasses). We also have a druid (planed subclass Circle of Dreams). Please choose something other than a ranger :).

What to expect

Preparing for the session

What you need to bring: *Players should have/make an account on Discord *Players should have/make an account on Tableplop. (https://new.tableplop.com/) If any players would like me to put their character sheet into Tableplop for them, just let me know! *Players do need a microphone. I prefer to play with video, although this is optional. *Players need an idea for their character! If you need help creating a level one character sheet I am happy to schedule a one-on-one meeting to walk you through it. *A willingness to get a little silly!

What Sarah J brings to the table

I lean more heavily towards roleplay, but keep a balance of combat and exploration as well. I love to do voices and be dramatic! I prefer running games with video as I find it easier to communicate when we can see each others' expressions. But I am willing to accommodate players who prefer not to show their face! I run mostly rules-as-written games. I don't mind reflavoring some of the text to help you achieve your character idea, but would rather not do heavy homebrew as I don't want things to get too unbalanced. I love to make silly little pixel-arts for all of my NPC's. I do not use AI to generate anything for my games. If you would like me to create an icon for your character, I will be happy to do so for our first session! I run my games on Tableplop, with gridded maps. Tableplop is highly customizable and free for players! It also allows me to create your character-sheet for you, if you do not feel comfortable learning the platform. Lastly, I like to try to incorporate immersive background music. From pastoral ambiance for a stroll through a field, to Phantom of the Opera for the tense confrontation at a theatre, I want the atmosphere to be engaging!

Homebrew rules

I do not use many homebrew rules. But if a rule is discussed and agreed upon by the players and DM, I am happy to incorporate it!

Safety

How Sarah J creates a safe table

I am committed to making a safe and inclusive game for all of my players. LGBTQ+ and BIPOC friendly! This campaign is generally appropriate for most audiences. There is some fairytale child abuse (Imagine Hansel and Gretel being fattened up to be eaten by a witch). I will send a Consent Checklist before Session 0 to all players. We will discuss our Lines and Veils at session 0 (hard-line-no vs fade-to-black for uncomfortable content). At any time, there will be no judgement if a player needs to step out of a session due to its content. I will also pause the session if any player expresses discomfort with how the game is going so that we can discuss consent before continuing.
