About the adventure
You are the only survivors of The Maiden’s Fury, an airship out of Waterdeep that crashed after a fierce battle with a white dragon in the midst of a blizzard. The ship hit the icy waters of Maer Dualdon, and quickly began to sink. Huddled on pieces of debris, you were rescued by a fishing boat out of Termalaine. It took several days for you to get back on your feet. The ship was lost, as was most of the crew and the mages that hired you. Termalaine is a picturesque village. It seems as if anything made of wood has been carved to capture the image of something beautiful or majestic or even a little dark. A powerful wind pummels the town, heaping the snow into drifts that reach to the rooftops. Each day is dark. The sun never seems to crest the horizon as dark clouds blot out the sky. Winter has come to stay. Far from home with no easy back, you will need to make your way in a harsh environment filled with hardships, danger and wonders. It is a land that has broken many, but it is also a land capable of forging heroes.

About me
In the ancient days before the coming of the internet, we would gather in dark, secluded places to roll rune carved stones as we shared stories of adventures. Time passed without meaning as the sun faded from the sky, at times, only to rise again before the telling of tales was complete. I'm Keith. Long time gamer, full time martial arts instructors and author. I played my first TTRPG game in 1983, and have been GMing games ever since. I've run my share of published adventure material, but my preference is to build a unique adventure for each group of players. How the story develops is based on the actions of the characters and the goals of the players. I believe the game table should be fun for everyone. We gather together to escape into a world of fantasy, mystery and adventure, and we should enjoy ourselves while we are doing it. If you want to see what my GM style is like, check out the actual play of our Urban Fantas/Horror game using the Cypher System rules at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLof6CEXyKymEcFdIUe0CYjTmrdij7pf3P

Knows the Rules
My wife and I have been playing D&D with Keith as our GM for awhile now. He is an awesome GM. We currently play in two games helmed by him and have a great time every session. He knows his craft, for sure! He is flexible in the rules enough to support creativity and the fun chaos that this game can bring, while also balancing gameplay well. Let’s face it - if he asks us to join a campaign, we’re saying, “Yep!”. Thanks, Keith, for being great!
Keith eats up my money just as much as I devour every bit of content he dishes out—and I love it. Keith is incredible. He has a way of including everyone, no matter how bizarre their ideas or how shy they are. He even has a unique ability to turn even the most innocent moments—like two regular ordinary merchants that were probably more meant to be throw away NPC's to drive the moment—into rich side stories packed with unexpected content. His deep understanding of the module breathes life into the story in a way few can match and his skill in handling a large group has been nothing short of impressive. I couldn’t have asked for a better guide through Phandalin. Even if I do sometimes regret the character flaws I gave my character and the messes they create for our group...
We have just started, but so far everything is great. Keith and I met online to create my character before the first session. He also set up a discussion board so we could create the opening scene and jump right into the game. His GM style is easy and fun. I am looking forward to this campaign.
Character creation
Creating your character
We will be playing with the 2024 ruleset (Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manual). You'll have access to the books via the Roll20 Compendium. All characters will begin at first level with the standard ability scores (15, 14, 13, 12, 10 & 8), maximum hit points, and with starting equipment based on class and background. I'll work one on one with new players to help them create their characters via our Discord server.
We’re playing Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. That is the background of our world, but what actually happens will depend on the actions of your characters. Session Zero will be used to establish character connections, flesh out backstories, finalize character creation, and to kick off the story. We’ll also go over safety tools and house rules. Characters can be survivors from the crash of The Maiden’s Fury, or they could be locals to the area. They will be created and tracked on Roll20. The party currently consists of: a halfling monk a goliath fighter (possible warlock multi-class in the future) a possible cleric or druid (to be determined)
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need to have a free discord and roll20 account. A microphone will be needed. Video is not required to play the game. If you need help, I'll work with you to get your accounts set up.
What Keith brings to the table
I'll use Roll20 to manage the game mechanics and Discord for voice communication. I'll take care of all of the server side configuration. D&D 5E core rule books can be accessed via the Roll20 Compendium once you join our Roll20 game server.
Homebrew rules
We play with the 2024 D&D 5e Rules. House rules are discussed during session zero, and if implemented documented in a player facing handout.

Safety
How Keith creates a safe table
The game may contain elements of horror, violence, death, dismemberment, occult references, darkness, confined spaces, vermin and other things that may be creepy and unsettling. Generally I try to keep games around a PG-13 rating in regards to violence and sex, but it is a fantasy setting where bad things happen. We will review safety tools in session zero as well as communicating directly with all players to make sure that everyone is alright with the content. The game table should be open to all.
