The Perils of Yak Mountain (5e one shot)

The Perils of Yak Mountain (5e one shot)

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot

About the adventure

Take your party on a perilous exploration of the mountain passes – a herd of yaks has to make it through the territory of an awakened evil. Will the party be able to save the village of the yakfolk? A 5e one shot for 4-6 characters of 8th level, but can be tweaked to accommodate as few as 2 players. This adventure is for new and old players, alike.

Game style

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

He's an incredible GM and is always willing to go along with whatever idea you have. He's very flexible and astoundingly inviting. I always come out of a game with him having enjoyed what he did. 10/10 Love everything you do Franky.

We signed up for a beginners game of D&D. The description said it was for 6+. We subbed in our youngest who really wanted to play a game. DM Franky was amazing. He runs a fun game and I highly recommend it to anyone apprehensive to learning the game. DM Franky truly embodies the spirit of the game he is running. My family will not stop talking about D&D now.

How to prepare

I plan to run this game on Roll20, so players should have an account and it is preferred that players have a mic. If players built a character on D&DBeyond, it is highly recommended that they download the Beyond20 extension. Players do not need prior experience or knowledge of the rules.

What I provide

We are playing online, so I will provide digital game components like maps, tokens, etc. If players wish, they can provide an image for me to use for their character portrait and character token. If a player doesn't provide this, I will us a placeholder image.

Gameplay details

Players should expect a light and fun environment with a patient DM who doesn't mind players asking questions. As written, this adventure is a good mix of combat, exploration and roleplay. Some parts may be cut as time allows. The rating for this adventure ranges between PG and PG-13 depending on the players, but there is no explicit content of any kind. Players should respect each other. No player vs player. Playful banter is ok. Before the game starts, I will go over things like player boundaries, game structure, breaks, etc.

How will character creation work

Player characters should be level 8, but it may differ depending on how may players we have. I can provide pre-generated characters or I can help to guide players through character creation. If we create characters, it should be done before the game, preferably on D&DBeyond.
