About the adventure

Game of Thrones: The Dance of the High Court is a custom campaign set in Westeros during the reign of King Jaeherys Targaryen, but from there, the similarities to A Song of Ice And Fire stops. This campaign revolves around the political scheming of the Red Keep, the lies and secrets that everyone holds, always trying to get ahead of their opponents while balancing on a knife edge. This will be a roleplay heavy campaign, where each player has their own selfish, personal goals, all working to secure power in the Seven Kingdoms, and maybe even ascend the Iron Throne... But is that the fate that the Gods have in store for you? The idea here is to sort of make a branch-off, alternate universe version of Game of Thrones, where we use the world and characters we know and love, but make our own story that shapes the world around it (And I also take some creative liberties with the magic ;)). If you love this setting, and have always wanted a self-insert or your OC in Westeros, this is the game for you!

About me

Welcome Adventurers, one and all! My name is Connor, I've been running games in the TTRPG space for 5 years now, creating epic, story-driven campaigns tailored to give my players a story that centres around and champions them! I'm an actor and writer, so my skills there lean heavily in to my GM style - you'll get wacky voices, crazy sound effects and detailed plots. I love collaboration, making sure the game is fulfilling your needs, making sure everyone at the table is comfortable as we craft these stories together! So let's jump in! There's always a seat at the table waiting for you.

Character creation

Creating your character

Please create a 6th level character sheet on your preferred platform and share that with me before the session. I'd love to have discussions with you as to how your character will fit in to the political landscape of this campaign, but also if you want to be a complete unknown coming in that's absolutely cool too! Everyone is going to be someone important with a role in the High Court (apart from the King) So you can be the Grand Maester, a Princess, noble, Kingsguard etc! Just a note that magic is a big taboo in the world, so if you're planning to be a spellcaster, we're going to need some way to hide that or not make it obvious to others (It could be one of your secrets you try to keep from everyone!!)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

This document has all the information about the current historical backdrop of the campaign, so you understand what's going on as we dive in (You do not have to read it all!) https://docs.google.com/document/d/11iSjHYl5ZLGGBsyZTF721q-cIBia3Sn1qD-kngCKNpg/edit?usp=sharing If you don't already have it, downloading Discord and creating an account through there is where we'll do most of our game stuff. There'll be an invite link for you if you decide to join up! A webcam and mic would be preferable for sessions, but not essential! As long as I can hear you speak on Discord, you don't need your camera on if you don't want to. Having Roll20 downloaded will also be super handy, so I can add you to the campaign there to keep track of character sheets etc. You can have an idea of character beforehand, but we can also create one organically in the moment! The only thing I do require is respect for everyone else at the table. I won't tolerate bullying, anti-social behaviour or bigotry. We're all here for a good time, experiencing the fun of roleplay with friends, and anyone who tries to break that will be removed. But other than that, just bring the vibes! I'm really excited to share this campaign with you!!

What Connor Duvenage brings to the table

I bring my skills as an actor and writer to the table. I'll be doing all of the wacky character voices, appropriate accents and roleplay. I love having ambient music during sessions (though I'm not the best DJ for mixing!!). I'm a big GOT fan, and I'm ALMOST an encyclopaedia of lore, and I have a deep understanding of the world, which I'll be using to keep the campaign true and authentic, while also being able to do our own thing with it. Massive Rule of Cool believer, as it's a homebrew setting, the rules for me are a loose guide, and we'll do what the players and I want. Combat can be as light or intense as players are comfortable with, but I'll always try to add a unique twist or environment to interact with to keep you on your toes!

Homebrew rules

Critical Successes for Skill Checks (Which I feel should be an actual rule! I like to reward good rolls with cool stuff) I don't have any specific rules, but we'll bend the rules in the moment for whatever feels most appropriate to the story. It'll always be a conversation for what feels fair.

Safety

How Connor Duvenage creates a safe table

Players can expect a chill environment, that can slowly ramp up into serious roleplay as people get involved. Out-of-game, out-of-character chats can pause the game whenever necessary, I'm also open to private discourse with each player to ensure everyone's having a good time, and we can steer away from topics at a moment's notice. Super informal, friendly and fun!
