Game of Thrones: The Dance of The High Court | HOMEBREW | D&D 5e
About the adventure
Game of Thrones: The Dance of the High Court is a custom campaign set in Westeros during the reign of King Jaeherys Targaryen, but from there, the similarities to A Song of Ice And Fire stops. This campaign revolves around the political scheming of the Red Keep, the lies and secrets that everyone holds, always trying to get ahead of their opponents while balancing on a knife edge. This will be a roleplay heavy campaign, where each player has their own selfish, personal goal (even over the other players) and you're all working to secure power in the Seven Kingdoms, and maybe even ascend the Iron Throne... But is that the fate that the Gods have in store for you? The idea here is to sort of make a branch-off, alternate universe version of Game of Thrones, where we use the world and characters we know and love, but make our own story that shapes the world around it (And I also take some creative liberties with the magic ;)). If you love this setting, and have always wanted a self-insert or your OC in Westeros, this is the game for you!

About me
Welcome Adventurers, one and all! My name is Connor, I've been running games in the TTRPG space for 5 years now, creating epic, story-driven campaigns tailored to give my players a story that centres around and champions them! I'm an actor and writer, so my skills there lean heavily in to my GM style - you'll get wacky voices, crazy sound effects and detailed plots. I love collaboration, making sure the game is fulfilling your needs, making sure everyone at the table is comfortable as we craft these stories together! So let's jump in! There's always a seat at the table waiting for you.

Storytelling

Sets the Mood
Connor is an incredible dungeon master who thinks in depth about every campaign session and overall story they write and carefully considers the world building aspects combined with working with the players to analyse how the stories they write and the characters the players make can interact to build a compelling, exciting, and sometimes even tear-jerking campaign. Connor is such a passionate and committed performer and writer that you can just see how much effort they put into every story and session they lead. I would personally say Connor is exactly the type of person you want and need as a dungeon master as they'll be able to enact some of the best experiences you'll ever have in dungeons and dragons and any storytelling driven game. I cannot express how highly I would recommend them.
An absolutely fantastic DM. Had them as our DM for a year and a half for a campaign and it was so so good. Their storytelling and world building was incredible, along with the immersive music and voices that they do, and their ability to think quickly on the spot is admirable, considering how many curveballs we as players hit them with. A very story based DM, will allow slight bending of rules if it allows for a really cool story moment. Also, a very supportive DM if you’re not so great with remembering all the rules, like me.
If you want an incredibly inmmersive experience, then Connor is the GM for you. Balancing intense battles, emotional character interactions, and hilarious scenarios, they will do all this and more in stride. Speaking personally, they single handedly created one of the most engaging and enjoyable DnD campaigns I've ever had the pleasure to be a part of. Running on for over a year, all of us made time to play evey single week, and always had an amazing time while round the table. Whether your a new player who wants guidance and support while you play, or a veteran player who wants a GM who will challenge and engage you, no matter what, having Connor as your GM will give you unforgettable memories.
Connor introduced me to DnD, helped me flesh out a character when I didn’t know anything on the character sheet other than the name 😂 played this campaign for years and by the end we were crying over how beautiful it was. Connor includes themed music and miniature models to really immerse the player, including voices and movement for characters, NPCs, and dragons
Connor is the most fantastic Game Master. They not only have an expansive knowledge of their world and know how to create an intricate and interesting world, but it’s clear they care about their players and want them to have fun. Over the course of an almost two year campaign they created a fantastic game that felt real and put so much hard work into it. An all round fantastic GM and person!
Character creation
Creating your character
If people have the time, the best way will be to create a 5th level character sheet on Roll20 and share that with me before the session. I'd love to have discussions with you as to how your character will fit in to the political landscape of this campaign, but also if you want to be a complete unknown coming in that's absolutely cool too! Everyone is going to be someone important with a role in the High Court (apart from the King) So you can be the Grand Maester, a Princess, noble, Kingsguard etc! Just a note that magic is a big taboo in the world, so if you're planning to be a spellcaster, we're going to need some way to hide that or not make it obvious to others (It could be one of your secrets you try to keep from everyone!!)
What to expect
Preparing for the session
This document has all the information about the current historical backdrop of the campaign, so you understand what's going on as we dive in (You do not have to read it all!) https://docs.google.com/document/d/11iSjHYl5ZLGGBsyZTF721q-cIBia3Sn1qD-kngCKNpg/edit?usp=sharing A webcam and mic would be preferable for sessions, but not essential! As long as I can hear you speak on Microsoft Teams, you don't need your camera on if you don't want to. Having Roll20 downloaded will also be super handy, so I can add you to the campaign there to keep track of character sheets etc. You can have an idea of character beforehand, but we can also create one organically in the moment! Also having Microsoft Teams downloaded and if you send me your email beforehand I can add you to the group. The only thing I do require is respect for everyone else at the table. I won't tolerate bullying, anti-social behaviour or bigotry. We're all here for a good time, experiencing the fun of roleplay with friends, and anyone who tries to break that will be removed. But other than that, just bring the vibes! This is my first campaign on this platform and I'm really excited to share it with you!!
What Connor Duvenage brings to the table
I bring my skills as an actor and writer to the table. I'll be doing all of the wacky character voices, appropriate accents and roleplay. I love having ambient music during sessions (though I'm not the best DJ for mixing!!). I'm a big GOT fan, and I'm ALMOST an encyclopaedia of lore, and I have a deep understanding of the world, which I'll be using to keep the campaign true and authentic, while also being able to do our own thing with it. Massive Rule of Cool believer, as it's a homebrew setting, the rules for me are a loose guide, and we'll do what the players and I want. Combat can be as light or intense as players are comfortable with, but I'll always try to add a unique twist or environment to interact with to keep you on your toes!

How Connor Duvenage creates a safe table
Players can expect a chill environment, that can slowly ramp up into serious roleplay as people get involved. Out-of-game, out-of-character chats can pause the game whenever necessary, I'm also open to private discourse with each player to ensure everyone's having a good time, and we can steer away from topics at a moment's notice. Super informal, friendly and fun!
