About the adventure

This short campaign takes players through three adventures from Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass (1985 Games). Obojima is a world full of magic and spirits; where people live and explore, and where there are festivals for every occasion. Although life here is mostly idyllic with farmers tilling their fields and shepherds tending to their sheep dragons, there is plenty of adventure to be had. Travelers will find their fair share of it by simply walking from village to village, following rumors and spirit companions, and allowing the strange and wonderful tales of the tall grass to unfold. "The Curious World Within”: The adventurers have decided to help out a young postal knight and find themselves shrunk to the size of a mouse when they infiltrate a witch’s workshop in hopes of procuring a letter. “Below The Shallows”: The adventurers are called to help a young boy recover his grandfather’s kite-plane, which was hijacked by fish folk and crashed into the Shallows. “Lost Within The Crawling Canopy”: The adventurers have saved Miga, a dara novelist, and Goose, her beloved dog companion from a dangerous howler attack, only to be surrounded and engulfed by the Crawling Canopy—a moving forest that roams the Gale Fields.

About me

Hello, misadventurers! You may recognize me as the former Dungeon Master at the family-friendly d20 Dames podcast. When I'm not running games, I'm a freelance game designer and author at my owner-operated company, Steampunk Unicorn Studio. I've worked for clients such as Hasbro, Larian Studios, Wizards of the Coast, MCDM, Hit Point Press, and Roll & Play Press, and my game credits include: Blood in Baldur’s Gate, Betrayal at House on the Hill 3E, HeroQuest, and Divinity Original Sin the Board Game. In the sphere of TTRPG actual play, I was the Dungeon Master on the family-friendly podcast d20 Dames, and I've played numerous roles, most notably as The Countess on Adventure They Wrote. My latest book, How to Be More D&D (Running Press Books), is an officially licensed publication through Dungeons & Dragons (Wizards of the Coast). I was also a Creative Laureate with the Storytelling Collective in 2022.

Character creation

Creating your character

Level 2 characters can be created beforehand on D&D Beyond in consultation with other players & DM on Discord. Please reach out ahead of the game if you have any questions.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a mic for Discord. Webcam is optional. A beginner level understanding of D&D 5E rules is necessary to play the game but I'm happy to help newer players learn as we go. You will need your character sheet and dice (either physical or virtual depending on your preferences).

What Kat Kruger brings to the table

I will provide access to the full range of character options from the book, access to D&D Beyond, as well as a private Discord server in which to play the game.
