My Fantasy Urban: Waterdeep Dragon Heist! (BIPOC🌈All)

My Fantasy Urban: Waterdeep Dragon Heist! (BIPOC🌈All)

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Across Faerûn, the name “Waterdeep” evokes feelings of wonder, awe, and envy. Although it is not the largest city in the Realms, the City of Splendors is undoubtedly the most famous and most cosmopolitan metropolis on the continent of Faerûn. Over a decade ago, the previous Open Lord, Dagult Neverember, embezzled a million gold pieces from the city. When the other officials noticed, Dagult was ousted, but he disappeared before they could question him. No one ever found the missing gold, and to this day, the hoard has been sought after by factions, treasure hunters, and thieves alike. But rumor has it that Neverember's hoard can be located with the help of a magical artifact, and that this artifact has been rediscovered by unsavory individuals. This is the story... of the Dragon Heist. ====== "Waterdeep at its finest" - We'll be playing My Fantasy Urban, a 10 to 15 session long campaign built upon the module "Waterdeep: Dragon Heist", and it's been rewritten to only include its best aspects! Chapters have been either rewritten or wholesale replaced to be more focused on both the Dragon Heist quest, and the Rules-Light Improv-Heavy Tavern Management Sim. GM Bee has added more scenes, locations, and NPCs to have more captivating Roleplay moments for the Players that make Dragon Heist feel less of a fetch quest video game and more like a City Urban Drama with a powerful Overarching Mystery alongside the Owning a Thriving Business and Workplace Shenanigans! "A grounded story and moments that pack a punch!" - GM Bee has remixed a lot of elements, including stuff from the Alexandrian Remix and Durnan's Guide to Tavernkeeping. Taking all sorts of inspirations, from TV to Nintendo to Anime... Basically, I'm having a LOT of fun with this module. There will be a good mix of lighthearted moments and real tension and tragedy I have big plans for Waterdeep! "Over 6 years of Writing, Planning, and Refinement in this Urban Campaign Experience!" - GM Bee has been crafting her own version of Waterdeep Dragon Heist since Mid 2019. Aside from streamlining the plot and adding her own improvements, GM Bee's My Fantasy Urban Adventure promises Preparedness, Focus, and Reliability. As much as we joke about "No GM Plan Survives the Table", GM Bee has run this adventure for multiple groups to completion over 6 times now. You might call this campaign a railroad, but like in a good way! Expect preparedness and me being an expert with what I have planned, so there's always story and content and no dead air, but enough flexibility and room for improvisation that the adventure feels personal and organic. "Although I champion the story and plot, Roleplay will be right there alongside." - There's always room for shenanigans and Player-Driven RP moments. So, if you want to flirt with the bar maiden, Go Ahead! But I will cut to the other players and juggle the spotlight, so everyone gets their moment to shine!

Bee is a lot of fun! She keeps the game moving at a good clip and helps people along as needed. She’s got a great, upbeat personality and gets into character well. Looking forward to session 2!

Bee has a unique style of GMing that can best be described as whimsical, "yes, and" and inclusive. While the more gritty style of fantasy is my usual preferred style, this was a nice change of pace and helped me see the variety that playing TTRPG has to offer. If you enjoy homebrew, a unique story, and high roleplay, please join Bee for a game!

Additional details

How to prepare

Aside from an adequate computer, browser, microphone, and internet connection, our games will be played Via Discord and Roll20, so you'll need accounts for those. Webcams are optional, but encouraged! I also have all the books for character creation on DnDBeyond, so you can create your characters there too. You'll need the Chrome/Firefox extension "Beyond20" installed, which sends your DnDBeyond rolls into our Roll20 room for us to see. You can also use physical dice instead if you wish! A good understanding of the rules for Dungeons & Dragons 5th (2024) Edition is recommended, but not required. Because this is a very roleplay and investigation heavy campaign, I require good teamwork skills, cooperation, and good communication. Our games will be played in English, so you will need to be fluent. Aside from your character sheet, I'll also need a PNG of your character, ideally their face. I'll be making them into tokens, or you can make and send me the art as tokens yourself. Please do your best to show up 30 minutes early if you can. This is so that if we need to discuss any details before we start, we can do so.

What I provide

Our sessions will be played on Roll20. We shall have maps, tokens, and music through Discord.

Gameplay details

Campaign Primer (with Graphics!) - https://docs.google.com/document/d/18yifVdj9l6rAmJivR-ye85z2sVPT1GycFCSxAq6-sc0/edit?usp=sharing The main plot is that you are a not-quite-famous-yet band of heroes funded by the great (or so he claims) author, Volo Volo (of Volo's Guide to Monsters and other books). We will be using the D&D 5.5e / 2024 ruleset, and you shall be starting at Level 4. While the opening quest is quite simple, once that's over and you're established as a team and given a base of operations in the city, the campaign will dive right into the investigation of the Dragon Heist! But while investigating the Dragon Heist, you’ll have to deal with relationships and roleplay! With your Tavern, you'll each be able to man a Tavern Station and Hire Staff. Build your friendship with your Co-Workers as you work under the great Volo Volo! Also! Expect Tavern Shenanigans within the sessions! No we won’t be bogged down by math, but I do want the Tavern to feel Alive and Real, along with all your Co-Workers/Paramores! I’ll be sure to prepare every session’s series of events ahead of time so we’re not spending 30 minutes scratching our heads rolling on tables. These sessions will definitely be less that and more like watching a RomCom that you get to BE in, all while exploring a rich, gripping, well crafted narrative as the backbone! There will also be combat, and the battles will always tie into the story and push the plot further. Content Warning: Fantasy Violence, Bars and Ale references, PG Romance, Fantasy Substances (for Plot!), Legal Courtroom Battles, Fictional Politics, and Fighting/Conflict of Fictional Groups/Factions/Peoples, and Fire. Note: This game is mostly a "Railroad" from Zac Oyama's Definition See - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ9tlq86bHw

How will character creation work

Character Creation Any of the official books, and you can reflavor/reskin the races/feature if you like (Homebrew may be allowed on a case-by-case basis) Multiclassing is an optional rule I allow for certain characters who have specific stories they want to tell that don't quite fit a monoclass. Ask me about this! Level 4, Point buy for Stats! and Average HP Start with Starting Class Equipment + 500 gp and you can have specific custom items for free as well if its relevant to your backstory. And Instead of Alignment, you'll be choosing something called a "Fate". See Discord for more info! We're playing to Level 10 ish.
