About the adventure

Welcome to Baldur's Gate, a city of ambition and corruption situated at the crossroads of the Sword Coast. You’ve just started your adventuring career, but already find yourself embroiled in a plot that sprawls from the shadows of Baldur’s Gate to the front lines of the planes-spanning Blood War! Do you have what it takes to turn infernal war machines and nefarious contracts against the archdevil Zariel and her diabolical hordes? And can you ever hope to find your way home safely when pitted against the infinite evils of the Nine Hells? Greetings! I'm Riko, and this is a continuation of the adventure Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus. Having confronted the first five levels of the adventure, the team of heroes, and some anti-heroes, are to make their way through the Blood War and save souls from damnation. This adventure already features many side-plots crafted from the backgrounds of adventurers, and yours can join into the mix with ease. Help a paladin determine their path on good and evil, allow a warlock to either serve or dismantle her patron, and discover why elves have been forcefully turned into Eladrin, and more!

About me

• Hello and welcome! I’m Robert, but everyone calls me Riko. It’s great to have you here, and I’d like to go over a bit of who I am and what you can expect from me as a Dungeon Master. To note, I am a CST time zone Dungeon Master, and am available typically from 12 PM CST to 8 PM CST, but I often make time for my players when need be! • Who is Riko? I’ve been running D&D games professionally for about four years, and have been a DM for the past decade now, since 5th edition of D&D released and a bit before with 3.5 edition. Ever since I learned there was a game you could be a powerful necromancer, master of armies and magister supreme, I’ve had a love for the game on a personal level, and once learning of all the stories you can tell with D&D, I fell in love with all of it as a whole. I run modules of 5th edition professionally, but each one of them is heavily changed with enough spice that it feels like a whole new meal to sink your teeth into. Having run adventures from first to twentieth level, I consider myself well informed on the balance and concepts of D&D from head to toe! My adventures are typically high fantasy and with some adventures dark horror, but I find the darkest places are where lights shine brightest, a theme that always holds a place in my heart as a DM. Personally, my favorite part of D&D is our collaborative storytelling. Each character you bring to my table has some fate to unfold, for better or worse, and it’s my job to make sure we get there together! I bring the verisimilitude, and you bring the excitement. Laughing and going over the details of what dangers and excitement we encounter together is what I love most about D&D, and it’s hard to pick a most favorite part! I want to bring you into the worlds and live in them for the time I have you, and get lost somewhere along the way in it all. • What to expect? - Access to most sourcebooks of D&D available on roll20, as well as tools to create exactly the kind of character you’re hoping to bring to life. - Introductory lessons on how to build characters, and tailored pacing of adventuring to ensure maximum chances of success. - Custom made maps designed through Dungeondraft and Inkarnate, to bring the various world crafted to life. - A welcoming space for new players, and for veterans, to co-mingle and take on the challenges of Wizards of the Coast, including hours of expanded, homebrew content to enhance every experience. Players ask me why I do what I do, and I have one simple answer: I love Dungeons and Dragons. I genuinely hope to have you at my tables, and to share that dedication and love I have for the game for a long time to come!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will begin at level 3, as players will be hardened adventurers with experience under their belt. Adventurers will either be placed in a D&D Beyond group campaign where all construction materials are shared, or done through Roll20 character sheets; D&D Beyond has shared access to the entirety of the rulebooks, while Roll20 does not and all information will have to be put in by hand. Discussion of what types of characters and rolls will be done in the Session 0, using Point Buy or Standard Array.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The minimum requirement will be a working microphone, and access to Discord, Roll20, and/or D&D Beyond. We will not be using Zoom for this game.

What Riko brings to the table

Using Roll20 and various map-making features, such as Inkarnate and Dungeondraft, most of the maps within this game will be hand crafted by myself. In addition, using Roll20's jukebox feature, the game will feature appropriately scenic music, both for travel and for combats. Roll20 will provide all that's needed for a charactermancer. D&D Beyond materials will not be provided, but characters mae on Beyond will be fully accessible to use in the adventure.

Safety

How Riko creates a safe table

Each session will involve a rundown of the events and an open door policy to allow adventurers to discuss details they want to cover and to help prevent bleed. In addition, X cards are permitted, and any facet of gameplay can be altered or modified for comfort. The Blood War is a dark adventure, and it is your DM's goal to ensure it's as accessible as possible in the healthiest of ways.
