About the adventure

Hello and welcome to Imperium Maledictum! This is the scaled-down version of roleplaying in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Rather than killbot Space Marines or enigmatic Eldar, or rampaging Orks, you play people much like the others in the Imperium--only they are going to go on adventures across the Macharian Sector, supported by (and supporting) their Patron. We'll begin with a slightly modified version of the published adventure Chemical Burn, which introduces your Ordo Hereticus agents (Inquisition) to Hive World Rokarth, in search of answers to the mystery of a new drug that's causing much concern. From there, we'll move into a larger campaign, self-designed and guided by you, which will delve deeper into the Terrors of Hive Rokarth. Here's my pitch! I hope it excites you to travel to the grim darkness of the far future! Imperium Maledictum: Hollow Saints In the choking depths of Hive Rokarth, a new drug is burning through the underhive—spreading lethargy and pliability. The Enforcers claim it’s just another narcotic plague. But the Ordo Hereticus suspects worse. As Inquisitorial agents, you have been tasked with uncovering the rot that festers beneath the hive’s steel skin. Your investigation will take you from gang-controlled slums to the gilded halls of corrupt nobility, from bloodstained enforcer precincts to hidden sanctuaries where zealots whisper dark prophecies. Every faction has secrets, and the deeper you dig, the more the walls of reality seem to buckle under their weight. The hive is on the brink of something terrible. A reckoning. A rebirth. A firestorm.

Game style

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

How to prepare

Have a mic and Discord account. You won't need anything else on the technical side. You don't need a copy of the rules and don't worry if you don't know the setting well--I've run for people who were new to it and they were just fine. The setting can be overwhelming once you go looking for info on it. Don't. I mean, you can, but it won't help you:) Barring the general elements of the 41st Millenium, if you're going to binge lore, stick to knowing what's in the Imperium Maledictum book rather than devouring every novel or side story about the universe.

What I provide

We'll use Discord for voice and general communication. Foundry VTT will be active for gameplay. I use music and sound if it isn't interruptive and doesn't throw people off--not everyone is cool with it. I'll use voices, have imagery for characters/NPCs/tokens. We'll start playing RAW, then if any rules are of concern we can look at them as we play. In my mind, Rule of Cool should be achieved through Rules-as-Written.

Gameplay details

Initially, I'll provide a copy of the Consent Checklist filled out by me. This way you know my default permissible content (that which I'm ok with). You are then more than welcome to move the ratings closer to Red (oh hell no) and I'll adjust accordingly. This will be done during the Session 0 phase, which will be conducted on Discord before the game properly begins. X cards are also in play, so there will be a way to indicate that during the game itself.

How will character creation work

We'll do character creation in Foundry, but make a copy of your character sheet to track outside of it, and in case of technical errors. Your characters will be agents of the Ordo Hereticus (that's the Inquisition Branch which deals with Heresy). I may incorporate some elements from the Inquisition Player's/GM's Guides. Otherwise it's all the core book and starting characters.
