About the adventure

Rumors speak of a city to the south, hidden and safe from prying eyes. A paradise, they say, with golden walls rising high, full of life's comforts...and treasure beyond imagining. Leaders of the north say it's a myth, a fairy tale aimed at those who don't appreciate the value of a hard day's work. Some have braved the journey south, but none have ever returned to confirm or deny the existence of the Gilded City. Believers say that they succeeded, and were welcomed to their newfound home, enjoying luxury and lives of ease. Deniers scoff, firmly believing every such pilgrim either died chasing a fantasy, or simply settled down elsewhere, hiding their failure to avoid embarrasment. But the rumors persist, and so adventurers continue their search. Merchants and speculators send caravans and scouts, looking for this city of riches. Regular citizens seek a better, perhaps easier life than their family farm or fishing village. Mages and scholars look for power and knowledge, as the mystery of a hidden city certainly implies great works of magic. Your reasons are your own, and you have not yet encountered everyone who may share in your search. But the question remains...will *you* find the city?

About me

Hi there! I'm a long-time DM and player, with experience in multiple TTRPG systems over the years. I typically run D&D 5e (both 2014 and 2024 versions), and have been running games professionally at a local game store for the last year or so, where I've been running episodic (Westmarch-style) sessions. In the past, I've also run much longer, story/arc focused campaigns; my longest campaign was around 3 years total. My games are typically narrative and player-focused, with intelligent bad guys and combat being appropriately dangerous. I've never had a TPK so far, but there's been a few close calls! I do voices, and am well-practiced with online play. I run my online games with a mixture of Discord (voice/video, game notes and chat) and FoundryVTT (virtual tabletop space, battlemaps, automations/effects and player/NPC management).

Character creation

Creating your character

Please create a Level 5 character on DNDBeyond, using Standard Array for your character attributes. A link to the Campaign on DNDBeyond will be provided. We are using 2024 rules for 5e, if you would like to use a class/sub-class that is not available in 2024 content, please confer with DM for approval beforehand. No homebrew or UA content allowed. Please provide a brief character background/backstory; somewhere between 1-2 paragraphs and a single page. Typical questions I will ask about your character: *Why* are they an adventurer? (At level 5, you've been an adventurer for a while) What do they look like? Age? Hairstyle? Stocky/slender? Tall/short? What sort of clothes do they wear? Fashionable? Functional? Something in-between? Do they have family? Friends? Mentors? What are some of their favorite foods or meals? Any hobbies, things your character does in their spare time?
