About the adventure

Oftentimes, animal companions and familiars are the forgotten members of an adventuring party. Well, not this time! In this adventure, they’re the stars! For this adventure, you’ll be creating a character who has either an animal companion or familiar, and while you will have times that you play both, the majority of the adventure will be done with a focus on the animal/creature. My goal in offering this is to create a unique roleplay experience where the roleplay, combat, and creative problem solving we all know and love takes on a new twist and those sidekick figures get a chance to shine. So, whether your character is scaly, slimy, feathered, or furred, they’re finally going to have their chance to shine!

About me

We find ourselves in a blue-hued room belonging to an awkward, nerdy teenage boy on a day when his life is about to be changed forever. For this happens to be the day his father will give him a very special gift. The gift itself is simply a red, rectangular box: the Dungeons and Dragons First Edition Beginner Box. Yes, this was a world of opportunity in which the boy could escape reality by being a character class like fighter, wizard, or…Elf? Yep, I’ve been a TTRP nerd for many decades now and it all started back when Elf and Dwarf were still considered classes, not races or ancestries and THACO was making me practice math way more enthusiastically than my teachers ever could. As I’ve continued forward in my gaming journey, I’ve enjoyed countless hours on both sides of the GM/DM screen, have become a Venture Agent with Pathfinder Society, and I coordinate the DND/Pathfinder Club at the school where I teach. So, what’s kept me invested in the game all this time? In simple terms, the creative freedom. I love playing creative and unique characters (for example, my gunslinger/witch with multiple personality disorder and the dice would determine which personality dominated each round). And as a GM/DM, I love creating an environment where my players can bring their interestingly unique characters and come up with creative and clever routes to take for problem solving…or problem creating as it sometimes becomes. I love creating a table where players can enjoy the sandbox world a TTRPG creates, helping players learn and expand their understanding of these amazing games, and I absolutely love when my players catch me off guard and the story goes places I’d never even thought it could go. I love creating a gaming world where NPC’s are meaningful figures, the places the characters venture are fleshed out locations a player can truly picture, and the world is something that the heroes find worth saving. A seat at my table will be a place where your ideas will be heard, your unique character and individual views will be respected, and we can all learn and grow together in this amazing game.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need: -Daily access to Discord and Google -To create your character and their animal companion/familiar (but I can help you with that if needed) -Dice or a digital dice roller -To respect yourself and all others at the table

What Sean (Suburban Dad Gaming) brings to the table

As a PbP, the narrative is less time bound and more free flowing throughout each week. Players are expected to at least check the posts daily, though there may not be a need for some players to post daily depending on what activities their character is currently involved in (for example, if you're down but stable, you don't have to post that you're still laying there motionless). I will be checking the game multiple times per day to keep the adventure moving, but you, as players, will only be charged the one weekly fee until the adventure reaches its conclusion. In addition to providing a place for the PbP post via Discord, there will also be a Google Slideshow with character and NPC data, maps, stats, and other helpful visuals as a readily available resource for all players. I will write in character voicings and will use description narratives, but I will also try to ensure posts are concise enough to be read fairly quickly and easily.

How Sean (Suburban Dad Gaming) creates a safe table

Our session 0 will be a chance to create character connections as you will be starting as a newly formed adventuring party. It will also be a chance to express and clarify any triggers the rest of the party will need to be aware of so everyone can have the best gaming experience possible.
