About the adventure

The past is uncertain, ⚠️ The future hangs in the balance, ⚖️ And nothing is impossible! ✨ You have died. Or... have you? You awaken in the morgue, memories of your life vague and jumbled. But escape is just the beginning of an impossible journey that will take you from the multiversal metropolis of Sigil, to the colorful Gate Towns at the edges of other worlds. In the Outlands, everything is possible, and everywhere is the center. Can you escape with your lives, discover the truth of your past, and maybe even... save the multiverse? This is a 5e (2024) campaign for 3-6 adventurers and will span from level 3 to 10 (with a jump to 17 at the finale). The campaign will use tactical maps for most encounters and combats. This is a tale of self discovery, otherworldly wonders, and philosophical quandaries for multiversal heroes!

About me

(he/him) Salutations! My name is Joshua, and I facilitate cooperative storytelling experiences. I have been GMing for 27 years with nearly 10,000 hours at the table behind the GM screen. Home games, con games, Short games, and long games. Simple, mysterious, Silly, or serious; I've run them. I believe that RPGs should be a safe playground where players can explore identities and ideas while feeling welcome and empowered. I design and facilitate my campaigns to center the player characters, weaving them into the world and building it up around them. My favorite genre is fractured fairy tales and fresh retellings of classic stories.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will discuss character ideas and the party's backstory during Session 0. Please send your character sheet to me at least 24 hours before the Session 1 for approval. I am available to talk through character creation ahead of time, and can provide a pre-generated character upon request. Player characters are 3rd level with starting equipment, plus 250gp to spend on additional gear and one uncommon magic item (subject to GM review). Use the Standard Array or 27 Point Buy for ability scores. Any officially published material is available for use, and homebrew and customization will be allowed, subject to review.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A microphone is required to participate. A webcam is encouraged, but not necessary. I will have my camera on, and I'd love to see you too! We will be using Discord and Roll20 to play, so you will need (free) accounts for both of them. You might want to download the Discord client as well, as many people find it a more reliable experience over the Discord browser application.

What Joshua brings to the table

As GM, I will provide the adventure itself, including maps and tokens. I will provide access to sourcebooks through D&D Beyond. I can provide pre-generated characters on request. Dice rolling may be handled through Roll20, through D&D Beyond (with the Beyond20 browser extension), or with physical dice.

Safety

How Joshua creates a safe table

Turn of Fortune's Wheel is a phantasmagorical tale of fractured heroes, high-concept adventures, and impossible circumstances. This game will contain elements of violence, peril, and trauma comparable to a PG-13 rated film. Please let me know if there are additional things I need to be aware of to maintain your comfort and safety. Racism, sexism, transphobia, ableism, and all other discrimination will not be tolerated.
