About the adventure

Rumors of troll movement near Bree and the Shire have begun to echo in the candlelight of taverns. Problem is, no one has been able to find where the trolls are hiding, or how they managed to enter these lands in the first place! Elsewhere, divination speaks of the Shadow of the Past resurfacing on an Island once lost to time. Those who listen in do so with curious inspiration and careful intuition. Gandalf the Grey has been sighted again in Bree, and his requests to adventure into the wild are answered with scorn and dismissive humor. Bad omens entangled in gossip spread through the lips of Men as they sip their ales. Yes odd times are at hand and plenty of work for a company of able bodied folks willing to stick their necks on the line for others. Learn a new system with The One Ring 2nd Edition and play on Middle-Earth during the Third Age.

About me

Some dragons hoard gold. Others hoard gemstones. While I never will turn down such hoards, I hoard stories - a hoard that grows with each passing day. As a long-term roleplay writer, I enjoy creating new stories and curating prewritten ones to fit the tone or purpose of my stories, parties, and games. I have been type-roleplaying for many years, being part of the forum roleplay groups back in the age of Gaia Online and other similar groups. Since then, I have been writing posts that expressed the inner workings, the active actions, and the pointed conversations of hundreds of complex characters. This is only amplified when compiling them together to form a story that is reactive and interactable from a group seeking the next dawn. I have a corgi familiar named Fenrir who often enjoys giving me the Help action and is a mini-celebrity amongst my players, often having a related npc or party pet that represents Fenrir and his antics. I value narrative context and will do my best to fit the mechanics to the narrative you want. This has led me to curating and crafting custom content - often referred to as homebrew - for several games, players, and even other game masters. I do my best to not include AI generated imagery in my live games, choosing to not use such images for advertisement and actively replacing any edge/unknown cases with commissioned pieces, and often support growing artists in my communities. I also do not use AI in any of my play-by-post messages. This provides a raw experience to my creative inspirations.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created at session 0, whether that is the first session or during a set aside timeframe where we meet up before the upcoming session. They will be created using the rule guidance provided in the Core Rulebook and, if joining midgame, taking into consideration any additional progress the party has made since the game has begun.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will be expected to have the following prepared before their first session: - have a discord account (free) - have an Alchemy VTT account (free) - download TaleSpire (guest version is free on Steam) - Set up a Google Drive account (free) - a laptop or computer - some way to hear others who are talking The following content is allowed if the player prefers: - physical dice While Talespire and Alchemy both have digital dice options, I fully support folks who want to use their own dice as long as they do so responsibly. - a microphone While having access to the ability to speak to us is useful, I have run with folks who are in situations where they can't talk or just prefer to type instead. This is perfectly fine as both Alchemy and Talespire support text based typing - though both may have character limits.

What Onyx (Megan) brings to the table

What I offer mechanically: - Discord, Alchemy, and Talespire expertise - Free access to the Talespire map and program - Extended knowledge and adoration for the LotR setting - Access to view the PDFs for The One Ring 2nd Edition What I offer narratively: - Relatable and dynamic NPCs - Revolving world events that showcase the passage of time and the impact of the party - Realistic situations with more than one path forward - Improv mastery to handle all of the twists and turns you may throw at me - Narration that wants to your story to be just as important as the adventure you partake in

Safety

How Onyx (Megan) creates a safe table

The use of safety tools provided in Discord, Roll20, and verbally will handle session by session content. The content warnings listed are only those that come to mind in a general sense of the adventures and may not fully encompass all safety issues that may come up. A quick note on a few safety issues. - Child Death, Kidnapping, and Violence against Children In LotR, these are common issues or problems that are often used to portray the evil creatures' actions. In many cases these are describing either past events or scenes that should end favorably in the player's court. However, may still occur. - Insects, Spiders, and Snakes may not make an appearance at all during normal gameplay and if someone has a serious fear towards one of these, I can look at working around them. However, it is well-known that these monsters do exist in Tolkien's work.
