About the adventure
Step into the Fires of Hell in Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus Are you ready to take your adventuring party to the ultimate crucible of fire and steel? Descent into Avernus is a gripping, player-driven campaign where your choices shape the fate of worlds. Starting in the gritty streets of Baldur’s Gate, you’ll eventually descend into the infernal wastelands of Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells. Here, every decision is a test of courage and morality—will you save the innocent, exploit the damned, or carve your own path through the flames? This adventure is perfect for players seeking freedom and creativity. Avernus is an expansive, sandbox setting where you’ll traverse the scorched battlefield of the Blood War in Infernal War Machines—customizable, soul-powered vehicles built for mayhem and survival. Explore the desolate terrain, uncover hidden secrets, and navigate the treacherous politics of devils and demons. Whether striking bargains, rallying allies, or battling fiends, your choices will determine the course of this epic tale. At the heart of your journey lies the city of Elturel, dragged into Avernus by some infernal means. Can you uncover the truth behind its fall and return it to the Material Plane, or will you allow it to burn in the fires of Hell? Along the way, you’ll encounter many NPCs who have intricate stories interwoven with the paths you choose. The module emphasizes themes of ambition and loss, and your group’s decisions will either redeem those along your path or possibly crushed below your boot as you carve out your own spot in the hells. For adventurers who crave the thrill of an open world, high-stakes drama, and the chance to leave a mark on the very fabric of Hell, Descent into Avernus promises an unforgettable experience. Will you rise as heroes, descend as conquerors, or fall to the temptations of the Nine Hells? The choice is yours.

The party began their journey witnessing the fall of elturel as it was dragged into the first layer of hell Avernus. They led refugees to the city of baldur’s gate and followed whatever leads they could find to discover what happened to Elturel and how to save it. After run ins with many cultist they learned what had happened to their beloved city and where it is now. Armed with the knowledge of where the city lies they traveled to candlekeep in search of safe passage to Avernus to continue their journey. The party has recently found transportation to the fallen city of Elturel within Avernus and have been doing their best to save as many lives as possible by helping survivors to bastions of safety in the city while slowly moving towards their ultimate goal of returning the city to the material plane.

How Caleb creates a safe table
Session 0: Safety Tools and Player Comfort During Session 0, we will discuss safety tools to ensure that everyone feels comfortable, respected, and able to fully enjoy the game. This includes: Lines and Veils: Lines are topics or themes that will not appear in the game at all (hard boundaries). Veils are topics that may appear but will be “faded to black” or handled off-screen (soft boundaries). Each player will have an opportunity to share their preferences privately or with the group. The X-Card: At any point during play, if something makes a player uncomfortable, they can say “X” or use an agreed signal to pause the game. The scene will be adjusted or skipped without explanation required. Open Door Policy: Players are free to take breaks or step away from the game if needed—no questions asked. Session Check-Ins: I will check in periodically during and between sessions to ensure everyone is still comfortable and enjoying the content. This conversation creates a safe and respectful environment where everyone can engage with the story fully while knowing their boundaries will be honored. Your fun and comfort are my top priority.
