Humblewood Homebrew

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Humblewood Homebrew is a campaign using the first Humblewood book and all Humblewood additional modules. Visit: https://hitpointpress.com/products/humblewood-campaign-book for more information! This game focuses on Exploration and Combat, with roleplay being less important. The vibe is very chill, with players being given space to explore and focus on whatever elements of the world they're most interested in. I would describe my game types as closer to video games than role-playing games. Other third-party content has been added to deepen the nature in the world, including flora and fauna, magical items, and monsters. The goal of my games is to create a deep world that players will want to explore, and be rewarded for that exploration. Creativity is also rewarded in this game, with multiple Crafting mechanics (and more being added as players become interested) players are encouraged to handle situations in whatever manner they see fit. The 'Rule of Cool' is in full effect and while rules are important, they often take a back seat to creating fun and exciting situations for the players.

How to prepare

Players need an account on Roll20, a Discord account, a mic that sounds at least decent (mics should be set to push-to-talk). Players should have some idea of what they would like to make for a character before Session 0, but this is not a requirement. Players will need to read over the Game Rules and Rules of Decorum the DM will send them before Session 0. Before Session 0 the player and DM will have a conversation and make sure the player understands everything and is comfortable moving forward. Player comfort is priority!

What I provide

Discord is used for Voice, there is no video for this adventure. Players are asked to leave Discord on Push-to-Talk. Roll20 VTT is used, with plenty of third-party maps and some homebrew maps. The DM will use character voices, but the players are not required to do so unless they are comfortable. Occasional ambient music is used. Combat is tactical and will be challenging, however the difficulty of the game WILL BE ADJUSTED to the player's skill levels, as fun is ALWAYS the priority!

Gameplay details

Player's concerns are addressed in Session 0, and they are encouraged to throw up a Safety Card digitally or to whisper the DM to stop anything that's happening at any time. No content is important enough that it can't be changed or skipped. If a player wishes to fill out the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist, I will send it to them and it can be filled out and sent back so the DM knows what topics might be off limits.

How will character creation work

Characters can be created in Session 0 as a group, however players can also create characters before then. New players are encouraged to build their characters with the group, and don't need to read the creation rules below until then (since it can be overwhelming!) The following are the basic character creation rules: 1. Books. Species/Races must be out of Humblewood. Everything else can be pulled from the following: All Humblewood Content, PHB 2014, Xanathar's, Tasha's. 2. Stats. Standard Array. 3. Starting level: 3 4. Characters will need to be created on Roll20. They will import them into the game. 5. Encumbrance. Off. The DM will monitor inventories and will notify players when they are carrying too much and need to store/sell items. Banks are also provided for players to store items. 6. Leveling is Milestone 7. Spell components are used. For most basic spells, the caster already has those components. 8. Players will be able to retool their characters if they're not having fun with them. The DM will let them know about the proper time to do so.
