About the adventure

Aurium is a land of gold and dragons. Full of dragons. Overrun by them so severely that monster and beast populations worldwide have been all but decimated. Ever hearty, the people of Aurium survive and even thrive in magically fortified cities scattered across unforgiving wilds. Chief among these jewels of civilization is the capital city of Brightfel, home to the legendary Hall of Doors that connects the far-flung cities of Aurium to one another... And the renouned Dragon Hunters. Dragon Hunters originate from every walk of life, from nobles to hermits, barbarians to wizards. Because of their position defending and protecting civilization itself, Dragon Hunters enjoy high pay and high status wherever they go in Aurium. They're also the only people who have first dibs on a limited portion of raw dragon materials after each successful hunt, and these components can be turned into specialized tools, armor, and weapons. There are really only two requirements to become a Dragon Hunter: (1) be brave enough to join a dragon hunt and (2) be skilled - or lucky - enough to survive. Do you have what it takes to be a Dragon Hunter?

About me

I love roleplaying games. I started as a player during my early teens and have been either a player or a DM ever since. Creating new worlds and all the culture and history and lore therein? Wonderful. Building characters and developing them through roleplay? Glorious. Describing scenes, battle sequences, and how an NPC reacts to the world around them? Perfection. Making up fun magical objects and twists and turns? Brilliant. At my virtual table, story >> rules... The limitations and chaos inherent with rules and rolls are there to enrich the story, not hinder it - they'll be integral but also remain flexible for storytelling purposes. I strive to blend PC backstories into the fabric of the storyline and provide a rich environment for character development and exploration, so every session/campaign/one-shot is unique to each set of PCs in it. 🏳️‍🌈♾️NOTE ♾️🏳️‍🌈 I run an inclusive space. At my tables, this means that I do my best to ensure that marginalized players don't have to deal with things like microaggressions or similar nonsense and can simply enjoy playing a TTRPG. Furthermore, my campaigns include positive minority representation both through plot and NPCs. If any of that isn't your cup of tea, then we're not a great match! My over-arching philosophy is that the real world can be pretty Not-Great, so we should be able to have fun - and win against the Bad Things! - in our games. Let's explore some wild worlds and fun stories together!

Character creation

Creating your character

Players should create a character before joining a session and send it to Dr. DM via Discord as a PDF for approval. All characters should have a short paragraph describing their backstory - and the backstory and the stats on the character sheet should make sense together! Dr. DM is always happy to help with character backstory ideas!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

- Roll20 will be used for maps but not voice chat. - Discord will be used for text-based RP and discussions, as well as voice chat. - A microphone is necessary but a camera is not! - Players can used D&D Beyond or any other character sheet management tool they prefer. - Players are stronly encouraged to make their own characters! - Dr. DM will make a PC for a player upon request with at least 2h advance notice before the session.

What Dr. DM brings to the table

- Players can choose from a variety of premade Roll20 tokens for their PCs, or Dr. DM can create a custom token for you if you have a artwork or a HeroForge image of your PC! - Battle music is available by request via Discord stream so that players can opt in/out of music during combat. - Combat will be fast-paced to ensure we all get to participate in slaying the dragon. Dr. DM will sometimes ask players to take the dodge action on a turn to keep combat moving forward. - The rules-as-written are a fantastic guidelines and structure for the game! However, Dr. DM does tend to embrace the rule-of-cool so while the RAW are certainly in place, using them in creative ways is always encouraged. Shenanigans, hijinks, and generally wacky out-of-the-box ideas are awesome! Dice & Rolling: - Roll with the dice that are rolling well - it doesn't matter if they're real dice, Roll20 dice, D&D Beyond, Avrae on Discord, or some other dice roller. - Nat 20s mean rolling up the full damage as usual, then multiplying by 2 at the end. - Nat 1s mean rulling up the full damage as usual, and then taking some/all of that damage yourself, breaking a weapon, or some other unfortunate critical failure.

Safety

How Dr. DM creates a safe table

Players will need to fill out the Consent Checklist upon sign-up. These responses will be incorporated into an overall Lines & Veils document listing out what content to avoid. Players are expected to review this Lines & Veils document prior to joining a session. In the event of any discomfort with the content of the session, players are encouraged to please contact the DM by whatever means they are comfortable with right away - private message, chat, voice chat, etc. The aim of the game is to have fun! Please communicate if there are any elements making the game not-fun for you! This is a Drop-In/Drop-Out campaign, meaning that the "cast" of PCs each session will vary according to who signs up for the session. This can mean not knowing the level, race, or class of other PCs in the party until the start of the session! Sessions start with introducing characters and briefing them on the dragon hunting mission, then move into strategy and combat, and end with another bit of RP to cap off the session. There are dedicated channels on Discord for: - The crafting shop for making items out of dragon components - The traveling magic item shopkeep with an inventory of constantly changing magic items - In-character roleplay between sessions - Out-of-character discussions and silliness Although there may be some deviation in the RP content of a given session, EVERY session will have at least 1 dragon battle with up to 6 PCs. Combat will be fast-paced due to time constraints, so players may be taking the "dodge" action on a turn to keep combat moving forward! .... And yes, there IS an over-arching plot and storyline! Let the shenanigans ensue!
