About the adventure
*NIGHTS OF PAYNE TOWN...* ...is a series of nine cases that weave together to form a dramatic urban fantasy noir experience. These cases range from murder mysteries to mob wars to conspiracy thrillers, and are grouped into three arcs: 🕵️ The Personal Vein: Three cases that focus on individual lives, personal tragedy, and deep inner pain. 🦄 The Mystical Vein: Three cases that focus on the strange and fantastical, the seeking of truth, and painful transformations. ⚔️ The Criminal Vein: Three cases that focus on organized crime, the price of power, and the pain that violence brings. Together, you and your crew will unravel these mysteries, revealing the sordid truth of this city with no name as well as the truth deep within yourselves. As you witness the vicious cycle of suffering throughout the City, you must also face your own inner pain - pain you don't even realize you're carrying. Will you try to heal all of this suffering, or will you allow it to fester? Let us find out.

Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Gameplay details
Before session zero, I'll be private messaging all the players one-on-one to discuss Lines & Veils. Our first session will be a free session zero, wherein we will make introductions, review Lines & Veils, and create characters. At the end of every session, I will run through "Roses, Thorns, and Buds", allowing players to present positive and negative feedback about the game along with suggestions to make the game more enjoyable in the future. Bigotry will not be tolerated in this group. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or other prejudiced behaviors will warrant an immediate kick.

How will character creation work
During session zero, we will do character and crew creation as a group. The game will be open to a wide variety of character and crew concepts, so we'll have a discussion to set up a cast of PCs that everyone will enjoy playing with. Come to session zero with lots of ideas!
