Every traveler needs to make a bit of coin along the way... What better way than to participate in free-for-all arena match for money and fame? The Devlyn Arena is a popular coliseum dedicated entirely to providing the audience with wild and entertaining battles. All manner of combatants are welcome, from barbarians to bards, warlocks to wizards, and everyone else. Though the champions might find themselves in the arena for glory or gold, the fans come for one reason alone: blood.

About me

I love roleplaying games. I started as a player during my early teens and have been either a player or a DM ever since. Creating new worlds and all the culture and history and lore therein? Wonderful. Building characters and developing them through roleplay? Glorious. Describing scenes, battle sequences, and how an NPC reacts to the world around them? Perfection. Making up fun magical objects and twists and turns? Brilliant. At my virtual table, story >> rules... The limitations and chaos inherent with rules and rolls are there to enrich the story, not hinder it - they'll be integral but also remain flexible for storytelling purposes. I strive to blend PC backstories into the fabric of the storyline and provide a rich environment for character development and exploration, so every session/campaign/one-shot is unique to each set of PCs in it. 🏳️‍🌈♾️NOTE ♾️🏳️‍🌈 I run an inclusive space. At my tables, this means that I do my best to ensure that marginalized players don't have to deal with things like microaggressions or similar nonsense and can simply enjoy playing a TTRPG. Furthermore, my campaigns include positive minority representation both through plot and NPCs. If any of that isn't your cup of tea, then we're not a great match! My over-arching philosophy is that the real world can be pretty Not-Great, so we should be able to have fun - and win against the Bad Things! - in our games. Let's explore some wild worlds and fun stories together!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen outside of the game between the player and Dr. DM. Lots of possibilities for what you can play: - A retired character you've been missing - A new character you haven't gotten to play yet - Test out a character build you've been itching to try - Try out a new set of prepared spells or fighting style for your usual character - Build your wildest wackiest dream character Really, any combination of race, class, and background from the Player's Handbook or Tasha's Cauldron of Everything are 100% safe bets. Races, classes, and backgrounds outside of those books are probably okay but the concept should be run past Dr. DM before the match just in case.

The current party

Character Creation Notes: - LEVEL 8 CAPTURE THE FLAG - Point buy for ability scores - Use the standard HP increase for your class/level (not rolled!) - You can have BOTH an ability score increase AND a feat at level 4 - Standard weapons/starting gear unless otherwise stated - You're welcome to use DNDBeyond, Roll20, or some other app to make your character sheet. Blank PDF character sheets available on request. - There aren't any stringent race/class/etc. restrictions, but if you're doing something *really* wacky, run it by Dr. DM first! For arena matches, virtually all concepts/combinations will be approved.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

- Roll20.net will be used for maps, so a Roll20.net account and a device able to run the site during the session are needed - A microphone for voice chat is needed for participation (no video camera necessary!) - You can use dice on Roll20, Discord (through the Avrae bot), or your own dice at home - Please send Dr. DM a copy of your character sheet before the game (Discord message is a fine medium for this, PDF are preferred to DNDBeyond links!) - Some knowledge of the rules of D&D 5e is helpful, but not required - the arena is a perfect place for new players to get the hang of D&D 5e combat! New players very welcome!

What Dr. DM brings to the table

Dr. DM will provide: - Epic, bloody combat descriptions - A hearty serving of silliness - Blank character sheets - Unique maps - Unique arena "games" and opponents

Safety

How Dr. DM creates a safe table

This one-shot can take a variety of forms: Player vs. Player free-for-all, PC team vs. NPC team, Capture the Flag, Mirror Match, Everyone vs. a Dragon, and more! All PCs in a match will be the same level, the level for a particular session will be decided by the players signing up for the match (see details for Character Creation in the Prep Notes). Arrive with a character ready to play and we'll dive right into the fight!
