About the adventure

You enter now into the Domains of Dread, to a land shrouded in mists known as Barovia. The fates will guide you under the shadow of Castle Ravenloft and its charismatic master, Count Strahd von Zarovich, who will gladly extend you an invitation to dinner. You will face monsters in the woods, abominations that lurk in shadow, and fight against terror just as often as your own mortality. The land is the darkest reflection of your own soul, whether you care to admit it or not, and if you ever wish to escape with your soul intact, there is but one path forward: Strahd must die. This game is not for the faint of heart. There are depictions of abuse and violence, even against children, a true depiction of classic gothic horror. Character death is entirely possible, depending on your choices. My desire is to cultivate a party of like-minded adventurers with a taste for the grim atmosphere of this world. Drama, horror, and intrigue are the real meat of this campaign. 🦇 Gothic horror and action, fight against skeletons, zombies, werewolves, vampires and more! 🦇 Roleplaying in terrifying locales, including the superstitious villages in the Barovia valley. 🦇 Adventure from levels 1 to 10 in a sandbox adventure where your path to the end is your own. 🦇 Featuring the stress and fear mechanics from the latest Ravenloft source book! 🦇 Uncover the ancient history of Barovia and free the land from Strahd's rule...or perish in the endless mists.

About me

Yooooooo I have been a DM for close to a decade, but in a roundabout way it took me a few years to find D&D. I rolled with a group that was too cool to play something as 'mainstream' as D&D. Sad to think I spent so long fiddling around in vague things like FATE to appease them! Now I've been my own DM for about five years, running things like Pathfinder 1e and D&D 5e in campaigns both prewritten and homebrewn. I've learned a lot of lessons, made a lot of mistakes, and I think I've come out the other side, if not a great DM like my players tell me, then an experienced one. You deserve my time and attention, much as I expect the same from my players in return. So why charge? I really put everything I have into my campaigns. I care about not only making them as good as they can be, but trying to make them as fun as they can be for you. I'm usually amenable to discussion on making a story that works for all of us. I want to provide sessions that are fun both as a roleplaying experience as a game. For a time, I was in this for the love of the game and to make it economically viable for me to just spend more time doing what I already love doing. That hasn't changed, but as I found myself dedicating more and more of my time to it, picking up more and more groups, I decided that for now, it's my full-time job. It's something I invest a lot of time in that players don't 'see' before the session time. It's time spent crafting custom encounter maps, reviewing and rebuilding adventures and jury-rigging the complex interactions of the virtual tabletop to run as smoothly as I can imagine with automation and user-friendly interfaces that work for you. I care about delivering on that.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will begin at first level. DNDBeyond support will be offered, but character sheets will be updated natively in Foundry for a better experience. We will be discussing creation guidelines together in Session 0. I do not enforce party compositions, but players should try to be respectful of one another. All this talk about horror and the condition of the human soul aside, it's still a game, and we want to have fun. Additionally: PHB Races only--human is encouraged. Point buy determines ability scores Starting equipment Feats are allowed Official classes only(exception for blood hunter perhaps?)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You need know the 5th edition standard rules, and a small handful of extended ones from the DMG, but I can teach the non-basic rules without issue. I will provide everything but your computer and internet browser.

What Prism DM brings to the table

Foundry VTT with a deep understanding of the powerful automations that keep games running at a brisk pace so that the action never slogs. I bring soundtracks tailored to the game experience, artwork crafted to supplement the adventure, copious research poured into enhancing the adventure in every reasonable way. I have a myriad of useful handouts and a detailed databank of journals to help you keep track of story, characters, and lore as the game progresses. Most of all, though, I want to bring you a fun time. Some of my additions to the game sometimes seems scary for unfamiliar players, but all of them are there in mind with creating an immersive and balanced experience. Hope to see you, and DM me for more details!

Safety

How Prism DM creates a safe table

I have a few house rules and addition rules from the DMG and other source books. The content of this game is such that you are strongly encouraged to play human characters (the denizens of Barovia have little contact with the outside planes and would regard a lizardfolk as terrible a monster as a werewolf). I am interested in characters with depth or dark secrets, but the campaign does need the party to be largely interested in doing good for goodness's sake. An evil tabaxi wizard would not play well here.
