About the adventure
The lands of Barovia await! Curse of Strahd takes your party of adventurers from the depths of despair to potential beacons of light in the dark. The mists of Barovia have claimed so very many, and trapped countless within their shadowed depths. But perhaps, if you are lucky, and if you are brave, you can stand against Strahd and his malice, find strength within yourselves, and save this broken land! This campaign is designed for a party of four to six adventurers, and will take you from level 1 to 10+. Will you stand up against Strahd, and stop his cruel tyranny? What will it cost you? Only time (and you) can answer these questions. It will still be bleak and dark, but I aim to create a fantasy setting that does not rely on bigotry to create horrifying and unsettling experiences.

Greetings and warm wishes, adventurers! Whether you are a bold and hearty hero looking for a fantastical adventure or a clever and cunning scoundrel who just wants to do the job, get paid, and go home, you'll find your place at my table. My name is Craig (he/him), and I've been a game master for more than half of my life. I grew up with my dad telling me all sorts of fantastical stories as a kid, and from there, I only delved deeper. I've run games professionally for a decade now, and have told stories for veterans, new players, and everything in between. Creating your character
Character creation will be discussed in-depth during Session Zero and in the group Discord beforehand. Access to a DnDBeyond campaign for character creation will be provided when you join the game, and you can feel free to discuss character concepts in the group Discord ahead of time. I suggest that you not completely finalize character creation until after it has been discussed during Session Zero, as after discussing it with the party, you may wish to make some alterations to better fit into the party's identity and goals. ๐ก๏ธ Characters will start at 1st level. ๐ก๏ธ 27 Point-Buy for stats, not rolled. ๐ก๏ธ Averages for HP instead of rolling. Further prep materials will be provided to you once you're signed up for the campaign, to give you a more in-depth look at just how character-building works. I offer several additional perks for new characters to help you create the character of your dreams!
Join us every Monday in the mists of Barovia, and stand up to darkness! This will be a weekly Curse of Strahd campaign running every Monday, until the tyrant himself is defeated. Veterans and new players alike are welcome. Plenty of unique twists on the Curse of Strahd adventure path await - even if you've played some of it already, you've never seen it quite like this!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Voice and video communication will be run through Discord, with DnDBeyond used for character creation, and Roll20 for battlemaps, visual aids, and dice rolling. You are not obligated to use video, but I will be running with my video on. You should: ๐ก๏ธ Bring a decent mic and headset, and preferably remain on push-to-talk or otherwise mute yourself between dialogue if you expect to have disruptive background noise. ๐ก๏ธ Join the group Discord server. ๐ก๏ธ Join the DnDBeyond campaign for the adventure. Otherwise, any reading that you want to do on the lands of Barovia will put you into good stead, and give you a solid idea of what to expect from the adventure ahead of you! How Craig Chapman creates a safe table
๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ฒ: A good deal of Curse of Strahd involves heavy roleplay, challenges that can't be solved with combat, and choosing between several difficult options. Some of the story will be revamped from the book to add more roleplaying opportunities, and we will collaborate on character backstories to make sure that anything you write will be added to the game. I run a script-heavy Roll20 game with plenty of visual aids and handouts, and will (usually) post most of these to a group Discord as well. Dynamic lighting, scripts to improve the accessibility and quality of your game, and macros to make every element of the game as simple as possible are all elements that I offer. These elements can be disabled upon request, if there are issues with lag or concerns about usability. ๐ฏ๐๐ ๐พ๐ ๐ท๐๐๐: We will use Roll20 as a virtual table-top (VTT) for gameplay and dice-rolling, and Discord for voice and (optional) video. I will use a camera, but you are not required to do so unless you want to. I use music bots in Discord for audio and ambience, but can also use Syrinscape upon request. I will have Discord open at all times on a separate monitor, so if you want to ask me any questions or have concerns about the gameplay, you can message me either straight through Roll20 or through Discord. I am also available throughout the week (excluding Saturdays) to help troubleshoot any tech issues or character questions, to a reasonable extent. ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ & ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐: Prior to our Session Zero, I will make sure everyone has a copy of the consent checklist to fill out, so that I can note during our conversation what matters are off-limits, and give you some anonymity if you want it. Our Session Zero will cover campaign direction and themes, the main elements of the campaign, preferred style of play and difficulty, content warnings and safety concerns, character creation guidelines, party integration, player etiquette, and house rules. If there are any other elements you'd like to discuss, please feel free to bring them up with me ahead of time, and I will discuss with you as to whether or not we should include them in our conversation.
