About the adventure

It fell from the sky and now nothing will ever be the same again. 15 years later, the civil war has abated and now some have turned their minds back to a capitol that was all but destroyed and what a few had found amongst the ruins. Now, different forces dream of fashioning new futures and are looking for those of courage and wits to return back from whence everyone else has fled. No one appears to have asked those denizens that lie within the city what they might think... Recent reviews of Egonaught's Dungeons of Drakkenheim campaigns: "Played in Ego's Drakkenheim campaign and had an absolute blast. He includes your character's backstories into the story whenever possible, doesn't railroad anything, and makes sure your in game decisions have consequences. He also does a fun job of roleplaying NPCs that you love to hate which makes roleplaying just that much more enjoyable. Would definitely join his table again for future campaigns." Nathan, played 31 sessions. "Egonaught is a top-tier DM Playing under Egonaught is an absolute blast. Their storytelling is rich, the world-building is immersive, and every session feels like it really matters. They strike a great balance between roleplay, combat, and pure chaos — and they roll with player choices like a pro even if we are stalling on rats. What really sets Ego apart is how much they genuinely care. They regularly check in to see how everyone’s doing, both in and out of character, and they create a space where everyone feels safe, included, and part of the story. The table feels like a community, not just a game and that’s entirely thanks to him. He also fills the party in well with re-caps if you had to skip out on a session. If you get a chance to join one of their campaigns, don’t pass it up. Ego runs unforgettable adventures with heart." Sam, played 20 sessions. About me

I have been GMing and playing in this great hobby now for 40 years and as my picture shows, I am still loving it :) Life is a rich tapestry and I try to fit into it as much as I can. I take this attitude into the games that I play and run, and so I always seem to be running something. I like to think that my life and gaming experiences provide benefits to the games that I run and therefore to the experiences that the players have. I am always looking to improve and welcome any feedback; if you don't grow, you decay. I hope we can grow together.

Character creation

Creating your character

On our Discord server you will be given access to a dedicated game channel that will highlight the process, any rule clarifications to be aware of, and links to source material I would recommend you try some of prior to play commencing. I will provide you with access to the new 2024 PHB rules through D&D Beyond, and these are the current content options for characters: - 2014 D&D content that has not been replaced under 2024; - Grim Hollow Players Guide; - Dungeons of Drakkenheim; - Cthulhu by Torchlight; - Crooked Moon; - Valda's Spire pf Secrets; - MCDM; - Book of Ebon Tides; - Heliana's Guide to Monster Hunting. Our Heroes will not be starting at Level 1, so try to think about the past that led them here, so places they have been, people they know, any great deeds they might have done. Any new characters joining an existing party will start at the average experience points of the party in the session that they join. If there are further background refinements that you wish to cover, we can do so via the Discord server.

The current party

There is still time for your Hero to join the Party on their latest mission into Drakkenheim! Session summaries are available for everyone to review and add their own notes to, creating an ongoing story of how your Hero helped to decide the fate of Drakkenheim. Current Party Goals: - Decide what to do with the holy relic they found in the Chapel crypt; - Search the eldritch city gardens for magical flowers that can aid with contamination; - Take control of the Watchtower within Emberwood village (potential Bastion); - Organise a meeting between the Silver Order and the Hooded Lanterns. Our current Brave Heroes are Level 7 and are: 🔮 Eneglin Sinclair, Elven Warlock; 👊🏽 Scyther, Aasimar Monk; ❤️‍🔥 Elias Thorn, Elven Cleric; 👊🏽 Tristan, Halfling Barbarian; 🏹 Caleb, Aasimar Monster Hunter. This campaign will be using the new D&D 5e 2024 Rules that will be made available to you as part of you playing this game. Upon completion of the campaign, Heroes will be a minimum level of 13th. Links to setting information and the D&D Beyond account for the game can be found via our Discord server, which will be shared with you during the signing up process.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should ✅ source a microphone external to the speakers of their PC or Mac (I can recommend one if you need to source a reasonably priced one); ✅ have a PC or Mac that is capable of joining the Foundry VTT reliably; ✅ sign-up for a D&D Beyond account if you do not have one (it is free to do so); ✅ sign-up for a Discord account if you do not have one (it is free to do so); ✅ agree with the Group on who will take notes (I always advise it with any Campaign, even if they're just a set of key points); ✅ remember that this is a game; ✅ be clear with their expectations without being discourteous; ✅ see this as an opportunity to learn from one another as well as to teach.

What Egonaught brings to the table

🌟 I bring with me 40 years of experience as a GM. 🌟 The games I run are generally immersive and story rich, with both film noir and horror influences. 🌟 Combats are less frequent but often brutal affairs. NPCs will usually therefore assume you will role-play with them first (most don't want to die either). 🌟 Those NPCs of significance will have some limited agency to respond to the Party's actions; this isn't a static environment. 🌟 I am not a voice actor AND I will do as many voices as I can, particularly to NPCs of significance to help you gain a sense of them. 🌟 Access to the Foundry VTT on which you will find all the rules you need as a player, along with all of the maps/tokens/audio required to run this Campaign; 🌟 Access to the new 2024 D&D 5e Rules via D&D Beyond; 🌟 A Discord server that will be used audio and text discussion; Heroes are forged in the white heat of adversity. In the beginning, you are nobodies. As the Campaign goes on, you slowly rise to meet the challenge that the Gods themselves have placed before you. I will cheer you on, but silently as the Gods are known to be jealous masters :)

Homebrew rules

The community area on our discord server contains a range of articles on the new D&D 5.5 rules and how we will make rulings on them. This is an open area where all players can discuss and contribute in turn. Specific examples of homebrew includes: - We do allow players to transfer Heroic Inspiration from their characters to another player character as we believe that this encourages both their usage and better team play. - We use the Perkins Crits Rule for Critical Hits, so the extra damage die is maximised. - We treat all Death Saves as Blind D20 Tests, so effects that can aid or harm such checks such as the Bless spell or Exhaustion will now be impactful. All rolls will be shared with the player of that character once Death Saves checks are no longer required. We do not support custom homebrew for individual players outside of reskinning of existing material.

Safety

How Egonaught creates a safe table

A Session 0 will be run before the Campaign starts and will last the length of a normal session. In the first part, we will have an open discussion on the different levels of player experience and on the themes explored by the published material. Where we can identify areas that might prove difficult for participants and how the other safety tools will be used to mitigate these and help player enjoyment in general. In the second part, we will as a group finalise your player characters and though I will help where required, this is an opportunity for players to collaborate and get to know each other little before we begin play. Outside of Session 0, we will conduct debriefings/above the table discussions in the first 5-10 minutes of the session as required, and Stars & Wishes in the last 5 minutes of every session. Players will be free to take breaks as life demands and I will on occasion reach out for a wellness check. Unless your character was already in a combat, then your character will be absent if you as the player are absent from that session. This gives you the layer surety that it will remain your character.
