Character Creation for Star Trek Adventures: Beyond the Final Frontier In our Star Trek Adventures campaign, character creation is a collaborative, story-driven process. We’ll be using the Lifepath Creation System to guide you through building a rich, detailed Starfleet officer. This process ensures your character has a well-rounded backstory, meaningful values, and a distinct role within the crew. We’ll handle this together during Session Zero. Here’s what to expect: 1. Species and Background First, you’ll choose your character’s species. Whether you want to play as a Human, Vulcan, Klingon, or another classic Trek species, each option provides unique abilities and traits. Then, we’ll define your character’s upbringing and background, exploring where they were raised and how it shaped them. Did they grow up on a core Federation planet, or were they raised on a remote colony? This will impact your attributes and character outlook. 2. Starfleet Academy Track Your character’s training at Starfleet Academy will determine their core skills and role aboard the ship. Choose a path that fits your concept—whether that’s Command, Science, Engineering, or another specialty. This step sets the foundation for your character’s abilities in specific disciplines. 3. Career Next, we’ll decide on your character’s experience level. Are they a newly commissioned officer, eager to prove themselves, or a seasoned veteran with years of deep-space missions behind them? This choice influences your starting abilities and may affect your character's rank. 4. Values and Motivations Values play a central role in Star Trek Adventures. These are your character’s core beliefs—what drives them. During character creation, we’ll develop your character’s values, such as “The Prime Directive Above All” or “Scientific Curiosity Drives Progress.” These values will influence your decisions and guide your roleplay. 5. Talents and Equipment You’ll also choose talents—unique abilities that reflect your character’s expertise. Whether it’s quick thinking in a crisis or unparalleled marksmanship, talents make your character stand out. You’ll also select basic equipment, such as a phaser, tricorder, or engineering tools, to help on missions. 6. Crew Roles and Relationships Finally, we’ll discuss how your character fits into the crew. Each player will take on an important role aboard the ship—whether it’s commanding from the bridge or maintaining the warp core. We’ll also explore your character’s relationships with their fellow officers, adding depth to the crew dynamic. By the end of Session Zero, you’ll have a fully fleshed-out Starfleet officer, ready to boldly go where no one has gone before!

Preparing for the session

Camera's are optional but please have a functioning mic, and stable internet connection. 1. Familiarize Yourself with the Star Trek Universe You don’t need to be a lifelong fan, but knowing the basics of the Star Trek universe will help immerse you in the game. Watching a few key episodes from The Next Generation or Deep Space Nine can give you a feel for the tone and themes. Focus on how Starfleet handles diplomacy, exploration, and the Prime Directive. If you're a seasoned Trekker, great! Feel free to draw on your favorite shows and characters for inspiration. 2. Understand the Star Trek Adventures Rules (Optional) While we’ll cover the mechanics during the game, it doesn’t hurt to have a basic grasp of the Star Trek Adventures system by Modiphius. If you want to dive in, you can check out the free quickstart guide or familiarize yourself with the 2d20 system. Don’t worry if it seems complex—I'll walk you through everything step-by-step. 3. Build Your Character Concept Think about what role you'd like to play on the starship. Starfleet crews are made up of people from diverse backgrounds with a variety of skills. Jot down a rough idea of your character’s backstory and goals. No need to worry about stats yet—we'll build characters together during session zero. 4.
