About the adventure

It would seem Anphia isn’t destined to see peace. Only ten years after its bloodiest conflict- known as the Dragon War, where the dragons of Draecapeon banded together to push back the ever-expanding humanoid races- another tragedy struck this world: The second continent, known as Faranddal, fell victim to a maddened cult, causing an event now known as ‘The Rapture’ and unleashing the Void all over the place. The Void slowly spread all over the continent, extinguishing all of life in its wake. A few bastions of resistance remained, but they were scarce. One such bastion was a city called Calnar. --- Now, five years after The Rapture, the Void is still a threat, but not as potent or aggressive as it was during the initial Rapture. People feel in their bones now would be a perfect time to unite and strike against the common enemy. Unfortunately, not everyone feels the same way, especially not in Calnar. One of the biggest havens against the Void is torn between two factions: The Shadowkeepers, led by the current ruler of Calnar, an aristocrat known only as “the Duchess”, and The Dawnsingers, led by a powerful mage, and a former Warder, Marthis Lucar. The citizens know that, should these two groups work together, they would be able to land a decent blow against the Void, maybe even push it back. But they also know, they would never work together. The civil war in the city spread its roots so far, that every citizen is devoted to one or the other, and while not directly members of either of the groups, they would go over great lengths to hinder the other. --- With the Void on their doorsteps and the civil war raging, the city of Calnar is closer than ever to its downfall. And should the greatest bastion on Faranddal fall, the rest would be sure to follow…

About me

Hi, the name’s Siannax. I’m primarily a Dungeon/Game Master and from time to time dip into the Player position, to see “the world” from the other side of the screen. I’ve been DMing for about 16 years now, jumping between systems for quite some times and then finally settling on D&D 5e. I live in Central Europe, so the times might be off for some, but I always try to run a session on weekends that would allow different timezones to join in as well.

Character creation

Creating your character

You are to make a character fitting into the world of Anphia. You can create any village/town in this world and it will be added. You can have a preference of a continent (Draecapeon/Faranddal), but there are some towns that would not exist on one continent, or the other way around. For any details, contact me and I will tell you all you need. Your character is level 7. If you want to play the custom class from this campaign (or are thinking about it), let me know, so I can send you the details about it. You can come from a different realm/world, but we will discuss this privately. It's good to have an idea about your character, but we will discuss roles, classes and stuff at Session 0. You character has to be ready (including backstory, personality traits, bonds, ideals and flaws) one day before Session 1. Keep in mind that I have a very simple rule for backstories: You get what you give! I love to read and the more sensible story you give me, the more I can work with. And the more I can work with, the more I can integrate your backstory into the campaign. Give me 5 sentences for your backstory? Sure, but don't act surprised if you get very little or absolutely no personalized encounters/time based on your history. Give me 5 pages of your backstory? Sure, I will read through it and make as many fitting references as I can. So, just to repeat myself, you get what you give.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Know the basics of 5e. If you don't know them yet, you can contact me and we can talk together about how much I want you to know (it's not much, don't worry). This campaign is based on voice communication, so have a mic that can capture your voice well enough for the others to clearly hear you. This is a huge issue and we will at least test it out in Session 0, but I require everyone to have a "capable" microphone for each session.

What Siannax Calberon brings to the table

I bring a unique story you will not get to experience anywhere else. I also strive to bring experience that will be memorable for both its content and for the jokes we make along the way. Character voices. Foundry VTT and 24/7 accessible server it runs on. A world with huge amount of lore that you can have an impact on. Unique one-shots that may happen every 8-12 weeks (if the group is up for that), to have a short break from the main campaign. Ambient music. For Tales of Anphia Chapters 2 and 3, a unique new class, the Harbinger, based about the world’s mechanics: Sanity and the Void. Use the corrupting powers around you to your advantage to annihilate your opponents or lead your team to victory.

Safety

How Siannax Calberon creates a safe table

I start in private messages, asking for what players want to have in the game and what they don't want (I prefer private as not to force the players to publicly announce it). At Session 0, we will discuss game style, discuss characters (this is optional, but encouraged. We do not discuss character backstories, as that might come later in the campaign. Backstories are discussed privately with me), we continue with setting up the lines of what not to cross and go over some potential rules modifications (one of the homebrew rules I always implement is changes to races with innate flying (letting them fly only when they reach level 5 and getting better at it with each level)). Breaks happen every hour for 5 minutes. In a 4 hour session, there is a 10 minute break in the middle. I love to have a talk after the session about the session, to give and receive feedback. If you don't want to do it publicly, you can always message me privately. Remember that if you give feedback and state your opinion, things may improve. If you stay silent, well, can't do much there, I can't read minds over Discord voice.
