About the adventure

What few may know of the notoriously zealous Blood Angels is that their geneseed contains a foul curse...the Red Thirst. After a time, they will see nothing but the visage of the betrayer Horus and be driven into a foul anger from which they will never return. You could be nearing these final stages, the Black Rage; and whether you are a Blood Angel or a common man destined to die, you stand with your brothers and you have decided you will not go quietly into this darkening madness. You are the Death Company, and your legend will honor the Emperor's name. For the glory of mankind. This campaign will be the story of the aforementioned Death Company as they prepare themselves to attack Chaos at one of its many sources. I'm a storyteller at heart, but I can't deny that this will be a combat heavy tale with plenty of opportunity to live out a legend worthy of the Emperor himself. Despite the intensity of the source material and theme, this campaign will be friendly to beginners in the 40K roleplay system! Likewise, players don't have to be Space Marines. They could instead be others doomed by the many fates of the 40K universe who will support the crusade, either by their own choices or by fate. Since themes of Chaos and corruption will be heavy, the Black Crusade book will be available. Can your characters resist temptation, or have they already fallen and wish to be redeemed? Do they wish to be redeemed...? The group will have the opportunity to choose which of the enemies of mankind they deem the most worthy of their final conquest, whether it be cleansing Morterion's legions of disease-ridden Nurgle worshippers or turning a Necron Tomb World into a floating pile of rich scrap for the Adeptus Mechanicus. If the campaign lives to its fullest potential, perhaps more than one of mankind's greatest threats can be purged from the cosmos.

About me

Since I started playing tabletops I've loved all the joy it brings people at a table. It's like going through a fantastical novel with a group of like-minded lovers of adventure! I've been GM-ing for about 10 years, and every session is worth the memorable experiences that I hope both I and my players receive.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters can be any of the many variants of human available, including any version of Space Marine. You can come with a character, but we'll make characters together at session 0 if needed. I'm happy to help with character creation! I'm not familiar with every option available, but characters from other factions could be possible as long as they end up with the same starting XP as the rest of the group and it makes sense narratively.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Using Discord, you will need a mic. Webcam will be optional (I will not be using one). We will be using digital dice, either through FoundryVTT or a Discord bot. You can create your character beforehand as long as you keep the theme in mind, and it makes sense when we get Session 0 going.

What William brings to the table

I can bring the Discord server as well as PDFs of a few Warhammer 40K tabletop books, including Black Crusade. It's not required, but if you bring art of your character or art representing your character, I can turn it into a token for use on Foundry.

Homebrew rules

-If you have a feature/trait/ability where you had multiple options or could've taken something else and you have not gotten any use out of it (as in it hasn't benefited even once), you can swap it out with a different option at the end of the session even if that normally wouldn't be allowed.

How William creates a safe table

SESSION 0 IS FREE! It will also help outline what everyone wants out of the campaign. Regardless, it's going to be a lot of (hopefully) fast-paced combat once the group settles on where they actually want to go and how they get there. Of course, it will be tailored so that everyone gets as much enjoyment as possible! Lines and Veils can be established together or privately. While 40K can be an epic experience, it has the potential to be horrific and uncomfortable given the lengths some of the source material goes to be "Grimdark" as they say. I have no intention of bringing anything too dark beyond violence to the table, and even then, it will be focused on displays of grandeur rather than brutal grotesqueness and that sort. I'll do my best to be accurate to the lore of each faction, and while that does include a degree of prejudice and intensity it will never bleed into real-life prejudices or reflect real-life traumas where it can be avoided. Mankind may certainly hate every Xeno, but all humans are equal under this Empire.
