About the adventure

Once every eight years, the fantastic Witchlight Carnival touches down on your world, bringing joy to one settlement after the next. Its carnival games, magical food, and wondrous displays draw throngs of delighted visitors. But there’s more to this magical extravaganza than meets the eye! The carnival is a gateway to the enchanted Feywild, which has recently fallen on dark times. Returning to the carnival may be the only way for you to recover something important to you that you lost the last time you visited, whether your ability to keep secrets, or your fluffy tail. Can you restore what was lost, both for yourself and for the Feywild? When your journey takes you to the Feywild beyond the Witchlight, how will you fare then? Players will be able to: • Chat with fantastical fey and faerie folk • Put on a grand player-run creative play performance • Plan and execute heists • Explore fantastical realms of the Feywild, ranging from an enchanted forest to a swamp to a mountaintop • Fight deadly inhabitants of the Feywild • Rise from Level 4 to 8 in a roleplay-heavy campaign ________ Art by Nate Tabs, a great artist, used with permission. About me

Greetings! I'm Justinian, a history and mythology nerd and “forever GM”. I've been fascinated by stories and games since childhood, and I’ve been running Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition campaigns for over six years! I run revised Wizards of the Coast modules (including Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus, Candlekeep Mysteries, Radiant Citadel, Spelljammer, Strixhaven, and Wild beyond the Witchlight) as well as custom Greek mythology, Theros, and Forgotten Realms adventures. All my games are LGBTQ+ and beginner friendly, and I onboard new players individually to get a sense of player preferences and group fit! My greatest joy as a GM is seeing players implement creative ideas and turn them into victories. I've seen players successfully cast suggestion to magically persuade a guardian to defend against other intruders in a tomb, adopt a slaadi tadpole as an (illegal) school pet, and infiltrate an enemy lair by pretending to be safety inspectors. I look forward to many more moments like these!

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will create a Level 1 player character under the following rules: • 2024 rules (species, background) but earlier subclasses and classes from published WOTC content (artificer) are acceptable • Characters will be created in D&D Beyond • No homebrew, Dragonlance, Eberron, Magic: The Gathering, or Spelljammer content, Partnered Content (Critical Role, Drakkenheim, etc) and no optional class features from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. • Standard array or point buy (27) for stat generation. • Character backstory must explain one precious thing the character lost, whether something intangible like their ability to smile or something tangible like a treasured toy.

The current party

We are now about to enter the forested realm of Thither, about 40% of the way through the campaign! This is a wonderful group that values in-game and above-table friendship, collaboration, and chaos. If you're interested in joining, message me your Discord username if you have not played with me before and we will set up an onboarding voice call to go over campaign and server rules, safety tools, technical assistance, and character creation.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

• Message me if you haven't played with me before so we can complete an onboarding voice call on Discord to go over safety tools, rules and expectations, and technical issues. Players must be available for this onboarding call at least 12 hours before the adventure occurs, otherwise they will be asked to join another time. • Functioning microphone, ideally with a headset, or minimal background noise. Cameras are optional. • A stable Internet connection • A Roll20 account, Discord account, and D&D Beyond account (all are free!) • Some preparation (after the Session 0, you must have created a Level 1 character and provided a token or art to represent them) • Bring a good attitude! Positive vibes only in the Feywild please.

What Justinian brings to the table

• Official licensed Roll20 Wild beyond the Witchlight module • Discord server • D&D Beyond compendium sharing with complete Player Bundle • Voice-acted NPCs • Thematic music • High-quality color battlemaps • Customized tokens

Safety

How Justinian creates a safe table

Players must sign onto a Code of Conduct in my Discord server before they begin play. Players should submit lines and veils to me and I will compile a list of them for players to adhere to for the course of the adventure. Players can expect dark fey contracts, violence, potential animal death (familiars, etc.), hostages/kidnapping of children who are forced to labor for a hag, fire, insects, mind alteration, spiders, and potential violence by and against animal-like humanoids (such as goblins). Combat and character death are possible in this adventure, and players must be ok with these to play this adventure. The one-shot will include a 10-minute break at around the halfway mark.
