About the adventure
You've been looking forward to a good rest and a hot meal, but something is not quite right at the famous countryside inn. Is it just the recent change in ownership, or is something more sinister and far-reaching going on behind the facade of this landmark establishment? And what treasures could be waiting in the ancient, crumbling tower it was built around...? This short adventure is a perfect introduction to playing in the world of Dungeons & Dragons. Filled to the brim with iconic D&D creatures, this adventure starts characters at level 5 so you can play around with classic features and spells like extra attacks and Fireballs. It's pretty G-rated (it's actually based on an official LEGO collaboration set!) so everyone can have some light-hearted fun together while getting a feel for how this amazing role-playing game works. I will walk you through character creation and gameplay in a step-by-step learn-by-playing way that is smooth, fun, and easy to pick up. This is also a low-commitment way to get started because after about 10 sessions you will have the basic knowledge & skills and a leveled-up character with some magic items to move on to other tables... or continue with me in a longer personalized campaign if you like!

About me
Welcome adventurers, and well met! If you're seeking a game where imagination rules and every decision can shape the story, you've come to the right place. As a seasoned Game Master (GM) specializing in "theater of the mind" style Dungeons & Dragons, I blend rich storytelling with dynamic character interactions to create a world that evolves and reacts to your choices and interests. And with a wide variety of real-life experiences in stage acting & directing, historical rapier & dagger fencing, travel, and teaching ESL communications in Japan, I bring a unique blend of knowledge, creativity, and engagement to every game I run. My personal journey from a shy, bookish introvert to a worldly, extroverted entertainer has shaped my approach to game-mastering, where inclusivity and collaboration are at the heart of every session. So together let's explore and quest and weave tales of wonder, heroism, intrigue, mystery, and mischief that will be remembered long after the dice have stopped rolling. Interested in joining a game or learning more? Let’s connect and set the stage for an unforgettable adventure! 〜Jeffrey

Creating your character
I will guide you through making characters together for the first 1-2 sessions. We will be creating characters using the standard 2024 rules starting from 5th level. I will send you a PDF character sheet that you can print on paper or edit directly on your device, or you can create digitally on D&D Beyond if you have a free account there. We will then go on a short adventure for about 5-7 more sessions through which I will walk you through the basics of roleplay, exploration, and combat. After that, your characters will level up to 6th level and have collected a few magic items to play with. You are then welcome to use your characters in your next adventures--!
We are still in the character creation stage, so it's easy to jump in smoothly without missing anything. This game is using the brand-new D&D rules as part of the launch of the exciting new 2024 rulebooks. All the current players are using D&D Beyond for their character creation and rolling. It's not necessary for you to do so, but it's definitely convenient and with a free account you can get access to my purchased resources there (like the full 2024 rulebook!). Come along and join us!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
This game is for total beginners. You don't need to prepare anything related to D&D. You WILL need the following basic tech items for the Zoom meeting itself: 🖥️ computer or tablet 💻 🎥 webcam and microphone 🎙️ (laptop or tablet built-ins are fine) 👥 Zoom app (or web interface) I will send you some informational links that you can explore or not, and I will walk you through everything from the first session when we make characters together. I'll introduce important rules step by step as they become highlighted in the actual gameplay. I won't blast you with them all at once, nor will I leave you completely in the dark. 🎲 It is definitely fun if you can get your hands on a set of those colorful, many-sided dice, but I will send you a link to some free, easy-to-use virtual online dice if you can't. Optionally, if you hate math and just want your character sheet to do all the work for you autofilling, rolling digital dice, and calculating as you roll, you can open a free D&D Beyond account. You automatically gain access to everything in the free basic ruleset, and I can share all my collected digital resources with you there as well to expand your options-- And that's it. You're ready to roll!
