About the adventure

The stars are falling. Not as dazzling, distant lights, but as unsettling omens. Across the Moonmaiden's Archipelago, whispers of unrest ripple beneath an otherwise orderly world. Trade routes falter, tensions rise between factions, and strange incidents surface just often enough to unsettle those paying attention. Most dismiss them as coincidence. Others aren't so sure. You are one of the Arcane Blades, a mage-knight sworn to the crown, part of an elite order entrusted with both the protection of the realm and the quiet handling of threats that never reach the public eye. Where armies cannot go, you are sent. Where answers are obscured, you are expected to find them. Recently, your path has begun to intersect with forces that operate in shadow. A group known only as the Black Veil has appeared at the edges of multiple incidents, their presence subtle but undeniable. They do not act openly, nor do they leave clear motives in their wake. Yet their influence is growing, and wherever they touch, events seem to spiral into something dark and terrifying. As an Arcane Blade, you stand at the crossroads of power and politics. Your decisions will shape not only your own story, but the fate of those around you. Alliances will be tested, truths will be uncovered, and not every answer will come easily. But your role is that of a detective, to find the truth at all costs. And when that truth is revealed, will you be able to stand and face it? Or will you cave in the face of pain? This is a story-driven campaign where character, choice, and consequence take center stage. Some sessions may pass without combat, focusing instead on roleplay, investigation, and the slow unraveling of a much larger narrative. The world is rich with history, and those who take the time to engage with it will find their stories woven deeply into its fabric. The stage is set. The pieces are already in motion. All that remains is to decide what role you will play when the music begins to rise.

About me

The number one rule of tabletop RPGs is simple: "Everyone should be having fun." That philosophy guides every game I run. Whether it’s diving into epic battles, solving mysteries, or roleplaying your heart out, my goal is to ensure we’re all enjoying the adventure together. So let’s roll some dice and make it happen! As a narratively-focused GM, I specialize in crafting worlds that respond to player backstories. I love creating memorable NPCs, engaging missions, and opportunities for character-driven storytelling. Collaboration is key: I’m always excited to work with players to weave their characters into the fabric of the world and develop arcs that will be talked about long after the final session. I also love my special effects - I edit loops of music for optional background use, create custom tokens, and utilize scenes, maps, and animation to help draw players into the story. Most of my games contain slightly less combat than is the average, but I'm more than happy to bring the game to fisticuffs more often if that's what the players enjoy. When I’m not running games, I’m reading books, watching videos, or otherwise expanding my knowledge of TTRPGs to keep evolving my style. My sessions are organically planned, focusing on story and player agency. While combat isn’t always guaranteed, I’m happy to adjust its frequency to fit the group’s preferences. A TTRPG isn’t defined by its Game Master — it’s defined by the collaboration of everyone playing, GM included. The world we create is ours to shape together. So, grab your dice, bring your imagination, and let’s tell the next unforgettable story in gaming!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will occur during Session Zero, which like all sessions will be held in a private server on Discord. You'll build your character in Quest Portal using a special template I set up for the game. Stats are determined using the Point Buy system, and levels will be gained via milestone. All the books listed in the Quick Guides channel in the linked Discord server are available for use.

The current party

Our table is looking to welcome a couple of new players into an established campaign. We've had some recent shifts in the roster, and we're excited to find folks who will really click with the style and energy of our group. To help you get a sense of whether this might be your kind of game, here are a few things you should keep in mind: 1. All characters are mages, and this is built into the premise. You’ll be playing arcane knights in service to the crown, so magic is part of everyone’s identity from the start. 2. The game starts (for you, at least) at level 9 (D&D 5e 2014). 3. This group *thrives* on character interaction, unraveling mysteries, and digging into the world. Some sessions may be entirely devoted to conversation, investigation, or problem-solving. If you love exploring characters, building relationships, solving crimes, and engaging with story threads over time, you’ll likely feel right at home here. 4. We play every other Monday at 6 PM Central Time (US). Our group spans the U.S. and Europe, so consistency with this time is important. If this sounds like your kind of table, I’d love to hear from you! I’ll set up a quick Discord chat with prospective players so we can get a feel for playstyle, expectations, and overall vibe. Looking forward to meeting some great storytellers.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Needed technology: webcam, microphone, desktop, laptop, or computer (please do not use your phone for everything). Optional technology: Document camera (for physical dice rolling) Needed software: Discord (messaging system) Optional software: Quest Portal App for tablets or phones

What Gear brings to the table

Quest Portal for maps. Communication via Discord. The game takes place on the continent of Treflés, a homebrewed original setting. I like using running jokes and absurd NPCs to make the world feel weird and unique. I encourage my players to add to that weirdness in their own ways. I embrace Rule of Cool, but the rules do matter. I'll be using a soundboard for certain sound effects, and light music you can opt out of in the Quest Portal settings.

Homebrew rules

No resurrection. Death is the end of us all. Drinking a potion is a bonus action. I use the optional chase scene rules outlined in the DM's Guide.
