About the adventure

The Peace that followed the Gate War lasted barely a century. Where a proud city once stood as a symbol of unity, only ash remains; its skyline shattered beneath the colossal rise of an abyssal tower, opening the entrance for demons to swarm into the world. A monument of malice that now casts its shadow across the Southern continent. Swarms of fiends spill from its depths, razing everything in their path. Your party escaped the destruction by the narrowest margin, fleeing through flaming ruins and the roar of demonic wings. Now, you travel a fractured world, seeking alliances among nations that distrust each other as much as they fear the tower’s advance. Every pact forged, every banner raised, becomes a bulwark against the Dreadlord’s growing armies. As you unravel the machinations of the doom cult responsible for the demonic incursion, you’ll stand at the forefront of a war meant to decide the fate of the world. This is a tale of desperate hope, shifting power, and heroism persevering against doom. Will you rise… or will the world fall? - About the experience - Dreadlord’s Rise is a campaign for players who enjoy being part of a team carving their place in a world that’s falling apart, while doing it with good humor, collaboration, and genuinely supportive vibes. Even with fiends swarming continents and cults plotting in the dark, the energy around the table stays relaxed, creative, and very player-driven. You can expect a mix of world travel, diplomacy, and big hero moments; with a deep world lore and an open invitation to create in it, the memorable moments never end. This is a campaign where we take our time exploring the factions you ally with, react to your character decisions, and build moments that feel personal even as the stakes climb. The party gets to shape the tone, be it serious when needed, or playfully mischievous and silly, we are always fueled by a “yes-and” spirit that gives you room to try bold, cinematic ideas. This is also part of a shared world between all my campaigns, which means your decisions ripple outward, impacting other tales and players. Nothing stressful, just the thrill of knowing your actions actually leave an impact. If you’re looking for an easygoing, inclusive group, a GM who loves collaborative storytelling, and a game that blends epic fantasy with a the silliness of improv storytelling and the absurdness of a well animated anime fight, you’ll fit right in here.

About me

I’ve been a Game Master for little over a decade, with the last year spent running games full-time on SPG. Storytelling has always been my obsession. With a background in film and game art, I bring that creative focus to every table, weaving each campaign like a passion project I get to share with my players. What started as a scrappy one-shot has grown into a huge high fantasy world, layered with lore and intersecting epics. Every table adds to that living timeline, shaping a setting that’s ever-growing. I love building stories with creative players, from simple beginnings, to deep psychological intrigue, all the way up to epic tales of heroes and villains, with just enough absurdity to keep us laughing years later. If you want to dive into rich, cinematic high fantasy and lose yourself in the narrative, we’re going to have a fantastic time together.

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll have a mini session 0 prior to the game, where we'll talk character concept and setting tone, do come up with a concept in mind if possible, and we'll find a way to make it to fit within the setting's lore. Homebrew is allowed and customization or reflavoring is encouraged, though it has to be previously approved for balance purposes. We are currently at level 10; using 2024 ruleset, with rolled stats, using 4d6, dropping the lowest and re-rolling any 1s. Characters will join the adventure with a rare equipment, as well as 1 rare wondrous item, 2 rare and 3 uncommon consumable item, and a custom crafted magical item that is of significance to them. This magical item will gain the opportunity to grow, improve and evolve during the adventure, growing in power with you. Feel free to use D&D beyond for the initial creation if you'd like, character sheets can easily be imported to foundry VTT.

The current party

All races have been customized for the setting's lore. The party composition currently has a custom class warlock frontliner, with a druid circle of the moon. On the back, a dwarven cleric of light focused on healing and support, and a wild magic sorcerer as debug support.

Have a web browser ready to join the link I'll send you for foundry VTT. This has to be opened in a computer, either PC or Mac works fine. Chromium browsers are recommended. Have a microphone and his Internet connection; It's highly encouraged to have a camera available.

Homebrew rules

**Crucible of Fate** Everyone will roll a D6 at the beginning of a session. On a roll of 1 to 3, they belong to the player's pool, otherwise, they go to the GM pool. After rolling any D20, but before knowing the results, players may use any number of Fate dice available in their pool, adding them to the total result. Once a die has been used, it goes to the opposing dice pool. Some character abilities may require the use of Fate dice. **Deadly criticals** On a natural 20 attack roll, weapons and features deal full damage and roll their dice on top of it. **Soft criticals** When an attack exceeds the AC by 10 or more, all damage dice are maxed. The damage benefit can be changed into a grappling or shoving check on top of the regular attack's damage. **Heroic spellcasting** As long as a leveled spell is used as an action, a non-damaging cantrip may be used as a bonus action. **Actually useful helpers** The help action can only be provided if a creature is proficient in the skill check. **Alternative skills** Players can request to use a different stat for a skill check as long as it's justified by narrative. **Druidic knowledge** Druids can roll nature with wisdom as their stats. **Clerical understanding** Clerics can roll their religion checks using wisdom instead. **A sip of that** Creatures may drink potions as a bonus action. If they use their action instead, they gain the full benefits of the item, without rolling. **Life improvements** Living a good lifestyle will grant bonuses like temporal hp, additional hit dice, etc. depending on the type of pleasure and the cost of it. **Evolving cantrips** Your non-scaling cantrips will get better as you level up, based on the [Evolving cantrips PDF]( https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R1BhBtKxTHR4WfsIkX5nKnXgkCj9CeXa/view?usp=drivesdk) **Heroic points** As a reward to daring actions, great roleplay, or amazing ideas, you'll be awarded a heroic point, which can be used as a free action to gain one of the following: - An automatic success. - Infuse double damage on an attack check - Make one normal action as a legendary action outside of your turn. - Bend the rules of the world slightly These unique effects must be described as an epic moment. **Ritual resurrection** Except for revivify, any other resurrection magic will require a ritual, where multiple creatures make skill checks. **True curses** The remove curse spell only shows you the way of removing a curse, be it a ritual, a quest or any other form of story development. **Clashing mana** When a spell is dispelled or counterspelled, there's a chance for the magic to cause a random mishap. **Working economy** Monetary values for the setting have been adjusted to reflect a real working economy, with actual uses for copper and silver coins in everyday life and lower levels. **A whole new world** The species of Etharis have been changed from traditional 5e D&D. Racial traits have a place and impact on the lore, life and religion.
