About the adventure

In the land of Etheron, where once it was said that the very angels walked among the mortals to enjoy bounty of the land, darkness now reigns supreme. The world has been plunged into perpetual night for generations, since the power of the sun was siphoned from the heavens. Humanity survives by the grace of the Solwarden, who leads the Legion of Light—the collected remnants of what were once many churches in service to deities of light, now armed with the dregs of the veiled sun's power. Their sacred solar relics are the last line of defense fending off the horrors that have grown and thrive in the unending dark. For varying reasons and talents, you have been requested to join the Legion, chosen by the Solwarden himself to undertake a mission of unparalleled importance. There is talk of a great power rising—that which broke the world generations ago—and has grown bolder and more formidable in your time. The Solwarden foretells that there will be a final siege against the remnants of the light that could sink the world into darkness and chaos forever. He seeks a group skilled, courageous, and perhaps mad enough to thwart this power—and, perhaps, even manage to bring the land to its former glory.

About me

If you love story-centric, roleplay-strong gamepIay with some kickass combat and thematic battlemaps, I'm the GM for you! I think collaborative storytelling is one of our most unique and incredible artforms, and my approach as a GM reflects that. We're telling a story together, so your character will be integral to the world we build, and you'll have agency in your choices that will shape the story as it goes. Every voice around the table matters, and each of us should be comfortable and having fun. I work hard at understanding what excites and entertains each of my players so that everyone is uniquely prioritized and gets their moment in the sun, whatever that looks like for them! As a GM, I love worldbuilding and lore, and creating a unique world to explore and interact with is important to me - even if that world is a pre-written, I'll always put my own spin on it and make sure my players' choices can shape and impact the narrative - *pirate voice* they're more like guidelines, anyway.* I also love to build dramatic moments, high stakes, and intriguing moral decisions for my players, in a world that has depth and nuance. Each group around a table is completely unique, so I'll ask for feedback and input along the way and trust you to give it honestly to make the best play experience for all of us. Let's get a game going!

Creating your character

D&D Beyond Link: https://www.dndbeyond.com/campaigns/join/5507943254380139 Level: 5 Items: Basic starting equipment. If you have left a review on StartPlaying, you can start with either a free feat or an uncommon item. Ability Scores: Regular 5e point by or roll. If rolling, roll 4d6 for each ability, drop the lowest. Re-roll any 1's. Add a roll for Sanity ability! DM Rules Yes-and as much as possible! We are creating a story together. The way to win D&D is for everyone to be having fun. I'm doing an alternate initiative style where the baddies will go and then all of the PCs will be able to go at once. No evil characters (all characters should be good or neutral aligned, and should not want to do evil or hurtful things just for the sake of them) If you'd like to romance a fellow PC, talk to the player first and get mutual, enthusiastic consent, or else do not attempt. If you'd like an NPC romance, talk to the DM and we'll discuss the parameters of that. Can't use persuasion on other players—if you want to convince a character of something, you have to convince them Everyone gets the Grappler feat automatically If we get to your turn and you're not ready, I'll give you about 30 seconds and then I'll move onto the next person and move you after them in initiative, to give you time to think and keep the momentum flowing. If you don't like a ruling I made or the way I did something, I want to know. Bring it up once in-game, and if my answer doesn't satisfy you, hold it until after the session and we can discuss. No cloak of displacement until late game (I just hate it, lol)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To bring: Something to pull up your character sheet, something to take notes with/on, dice (if you don't have any, we have some to borrow!), and any snacks or drinks you want! Parking: Driveway or street

What The Game Maven brings to the table

D&D Beyond content, custom maps, digital maps, tokens, minis, dice to borrow, notebooks and writing utensils, character voices, ambient music, intense tacitcal and RP-focused combat, a good combination of Rules as Written and Rule of Cool.

Safety

How The Game Maven creates a safe table

There is a player survey to submit Lines, Veils, Stars, and Wishes, as well as in-game DM messaging techniques to either publicly or anonymously bring up issues or set a boundary. There will be debriefs after intense sessions and any character deaths, a Session 0 to establish the pre-received boundaries and rules, and an open-door policy for any player to address things at any time with the DM, with a clear process by which to do so.
