About the adventure

Set Sail on a journey across the Sword Coast battling Pirates and an ever growing threat that looms in the depths of the ocean. From far beyond the stars, a new threat provides a looming sense of eldritch horror that will drive the party toward sudden madness. It is up to you and your companions to thwart this ever growing threat before it takes hold of Faerûn. Note: This adventure is free and will remain free for the length of it's entirety. I provide an open table policy, but would like players who are serious in a long term campaign. We will be playing on a Bi-Weekly schedule in 3 hour blocks.

About me

I've been both playing and running Tabletop Role-playing games for about 22 years now. I started with 1st edition D&D, then moved onto AD&D2e. After that I picked up later editions as they were released. 3.0, then 3.5, then 4e, and now 5e. I've also played and run Starfinder, D20 Modern, and the Hero system.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will start at level 1. They may choose to use Standard Array, Point Buy, or Roll stats. Rolled stats will be determined by a roll of 4D6 dropping the lowest roll. You may roll your stats any number of times until you are satisfied with the results. I will adjust encounter difficulty based on party toughness so don't worry if you have high stats. Starting Equipment should be allocated per the PHB. You have an additional 200gp to spend on equipment that you think you might need for the voyage. All official content is allowed apart from the Rick and Morty, Minecraft, Grimhollow, and Drakkenheim. Homebrew is going to be restricted to things that are DM provided only.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

If you don't already, set up an account on DnD Beyond, Roll20, and Discord. I will provide the links to the Roll20 campaign, and Discord server once you are signed up for the game. A Microphone is required to play however, a Camera is not. Please also download the Beyond20 plugin for your Web Browser. This will allow your character rolls and sheet information to translate from DnD Beyond into Roll20. If you would like to install Spotify, I will be running a music playlist during sessions that can be joined through Discord. Character creation should happen prior to session 0. Session 0 will be to go over the sheets and add any adjustments to them as necessary. We will also use session 0 to set expectations and get to know one another and each other's character.

What Dan brings to the table

While anything is possible, anything overtly sexual is off the table. I enjoy roleplaying, but I feel that sexual fantasy has it's place in the bedroom. I will not shy away from most subjects and topics however, due to triggers that may cause trauma to those who have survived sexual abuse I will be shying away from any topic relating to sexual romance. If Romance is something you would like to explore, anything done in a sexual nature is going to be hand waved. That said I like to include the player characters in the game and make them feel a part of the world. I ultimately allow the players to drive the narrative between sessions by using feedback and direction from the players at the end of each session. The more you provide to me on your character's history, the better I can incorporate them into the living and breathing world of the Sword Coast. I like to mix heavy combat with heavy role-playing sessions that focus on the players and their needs. The main story is always going to be secondary to what the players want to play each session. Just because events are happening, doesn't mean the party needs to participate. That said I would like for you to tell me what you expect from a DM during session 0 so that we can culminate a viable framework for cohesive co-storytelling. I look forward to meeting you all. Don't hesitate to be yourself, and let me know if I'm being an asshole or overstepping a boundary. It's not my intent, but we all are different people with different expectations and I would like to be amicable to everyone's needs.

Safety

How Dan creates a safe table

Most things are not off the table except for things overtly sexual. Romantic relationships can happen, and sex is a part of that however, it is my belief that those encounters should happen behind closed doors. I will be hand waving anything overtly sexual and shying away from topics of sexual assault or abuse.
