About the adventure

Come join us for adventures on the Kalen Frontier! An original homebrew setting that we're creating collaboratively as we play! Ships have begun arriving from the East as the five Kingdoms of Elara all vie for a foothold on this new continent! Will you work with the Lords from the Old Country to help them stake their claim? Are you looking to carve out a piece of history for yourself? Or maybe you're just someone looking to take advantage of the chaos to further your goals? Adventures will span the new stone cities on the eastern coast, the settled forests, the high seas, and the untamed plains and desserts to the West. Open to experienced players as well as people who are just getting into the game! Let's have fun and tell a story together!

About me

Howdy! My name is Rob, and I'm stoked to meet you! I specialize in creating 100% custom games of 5e D&D. If you and your friends have been interested in getting into D&D, or if you're looking to give your "Forever DM" a break, let's chat! You let me know what kind of characters you're excited to try, and what kind of world you're excited to explore, and I will work with you to create a completely customized game set in a world we all create together! Session 0 is free!

Character creation

Creating your character

I am more than happy to work with you to build a character for this game! If you'd like to roll one up yourself, any and all races and subclasses are welcome from the PHB, Xanathar's, and Tasha's. Characters start at level 3, and you can choose to use either the Standard Array or roll for your stats! To roll your stats, roll 4 D6 and drop the lowest to get your number. Roll 7 stat numbers this way and keep the highest 6! We also use the optional Racial Bonus rules to let you put your starting +2 and +1 wherever you'd like! So this is the perfect place to try out that Halfling Barbarian or Orc Wizard! If you feel like you'd benefit from any guidance while making your character, you're always welcome to message me and I'd love to help!

The current party

Hop on in and explore the Homebrew setting of the Kalen Frontier! A mostly unexplored continent to the west, where the five Kingdoms of the Old World are competing for a foothold! Come help us create and adventure in this collaboratively crafted world!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You should have a free Roll20 account, a Discord account, and a microphone. Webcams are preferred, but not required. Other than that, just have some character ideas in mind!

What Rob brings to the table

I have a paid Roll20 account for us to have a shared screen/dice rolling space. Other than that, I usually like to use Discord for video/audio during the game. I just find it works better than Roll20 does for that purpose. Other than that, the only thing I bring is a decade of experience running this game for folks. I don't make super fancy battle maps or tokens, I run the game online the same way I'd run it in person, with bottlecaps for minis and a dry erase board. Since my GM style is very open to PC improvisation, I find this works best. I don't know where the PCs are going to go for sure, who they might fight, and what wonders they'll discover in the world! If a fight breaks out, I'll draw up a battle map if we need one, but most of this game will take place in our shared imaginative space!

Safety

How Rob creates a safe table

I am very laid back, but I have a list of things that won't be included in games I run. Any world I create won't go over the topics of: Sexual violence Violence against children or Transphobia/Homophobia There are enough instances of those things IRL, I don't include them in our fantasy stories. Session 0 will be a place for everyone to go over ideas for their characters and build the world, but it's also a place for anyone to (publicly or privately to me) bring up any topics they'd like us to avoid. At any time during our games, anyone can simply say "I need a break" and we will immediately halt the game. This can be for something as simple as a bio break, or it can be a way to pause things if the story is going in a direction you find uncomfortable. After every session, I will be available to go over what happened during the game, and will always be open to feedback!
