About me

In addition to being a GM, I am a professional RPG author and designer. I've written adventures, rules, and creatures for over twenty products in the Pathfinder and Starfinder product lines. My notable credits include "The Resurrection Flood" for the Triumph of the Tusk Adventure Path, "A Taste of Ashes" from the Blood Lords Adventure Path, "We Be Heroes?" Paizo’s Free RPG Day 2019 adventure, and "Siege of Gallowspire," the finale of Pathfinder Society’s 1st edition campaign. I'm a lifelong TTRPG player and GM. I've run a wide variety of systems, from D&D and Pathfinder to Hero, Battletech, FATE, Delta Green, and many more.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will work together to create characters during Session 0 and by email before we begin Session 1. I will walk everyone through character creation together. Pre-generated characters are also available if any players would rather use those.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I encourage players to learn about the time period (1920s) to help inform their choices about characters and how they act. A little bit goes a long way, however, so there's no need for deep research unless you feel like it! Mic is required; webcam is highly encouraged. No need to know the rules or setting. Each player will need to sign up for a free Roll20 account if they don't have one already. We will use Discord for video/voice, so players will need a Discord account.

What Brian brings to the table

I'll provide digital character sheets through Roll20. There will be literally HUNDREDS of handouts over the course of the campaign, but they're saved to Roll20 so you don't need to worry about losing them! I have the updated version of Masks of Nyarlathotep, and it is chock full of gorgeous art that I can't wait to share!

How Brian creates a safe table

BEGINNER FRIENDLY! This is a long-term campaign, and no one needs to know how to play right away. We'll walk through rules as we need them. Call of Cthulhu is a game of horror, but that doesn't mean every session involves something horrific. In fact, most sessions will focus heavily on investigation and roleplaying, which makes the scary bits all the more frightening. We will talk in Session 0 about X, N & O cards. This is a digital card deck you can click on and the card pops on everyone's screen anonymously. I am also willing to adjust the level of horror as needed to suit the players' desires. This is not only something we discuss during Session 0, but throughout the campaign.
