About the adventure

You wake up after a long night's rest, well rested in a dense, foggy forest amongst trees of stone. You are unsure how you got here and you're even less sure on how to get back (if you want to). This island is full of mysteries with a deep history spanning across 3000 years amongst gods, kings, and mortals. You will journey through this land, uncovering any of the mysteries you wish to immerse yourself in. This is a highly mystery-focused narrative with an emphasis on roleplay. The island is a fully made map and lived-in world. You will visit towns and kingdoms that have history with one another, and it'll be up to you if you wish to save everyone or simply return home.

About me

I was once told that a diplomat is someone who can tell you to go to Avernus and convince you to look forward to the trip. I've convinced at least 20 players to do so. I have been DMing for well over 15 years at this point (more than half my life) and I've had a great passion for game design. I'm currently at college for Game Design. I've DMed for Pathfinder, D&D 3.5e, D&D 5e, a few and multiple homebrewed systems which I created. I often use sci-fi, high fantasy, and dark fantasy settings. My games focus on player-driven narrative based gameplay. I have been told that I occasionally offer my players too much freedom, and I prefer that my players have absolute control over where the narrative takes us. I will not railroad my players, even if I do lose 20 planned quests in a single scheme. I'm open and accepting of whatever my players want to do and will look for a way to let them do it without breaking game balance too much.

Character creation

Creating your character

Plan the character before you come to session zero, but we will finish character sheets together. Your character can be from any world, be it an elf from Lord of the Rings or a 1950's mafia boss. All players are welcome to ask for help before session zero and we can have a discord voice chat to iron out details. Use any books you'd like, run any homebrews by the DM. Before Session Zero: Create a Level 5 Character Ignore Multiclass Restrictions You CAN increase your attributes above 20 with attribute increases. Stats: Roll 4d6, reroll 1s, drop the lowest number, add the remaining three. During Session Zero For backgrounds and story-relevant details, I would like to discuss those during session zero. This includes worshipped gods, patrons, and anything else you'd like to be included in the game.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a microphone and a discord account. New players are welcome to join with zero experience but please contact me before session zero.

What Ryan, Warlock of the World Tree brings to the table

I live and I die by the Rule of Cool. Combat will be quite tactical but more in a puzzle sense and not grindy-tactical. I use ambient music and a quite a bit of theater of the mind. I do characters with distinct speaking styles and sometimes, but not often, will give them a unique accent or character voice. We may flip between drawn maps and theater of the mind.

Safety

How Ryan, Warlock of the World Tree creates a safe table

Most of the tags may not come up based the players take the story, but these are things with a strong likelihood of being mentioned. We will have a lines and veils and triggers discussion during session 0, and if you want that to be a private conversation let me know. After sessions I always check in with my players about how they're feeling and how the session went. If you have any concerns feel free to message me.
