About the adventure
Your party has returned to Icewind Dale after a long and perilous journey. Upon arrival, you quickly realize things aren’t the same as when you left a year ago. It’s cold and it’s dark. You soon discover that Auril the Frostmaiden, the “divine embodiment of winter's fury,” has plunged Icewind Dale into a never-ending winter. What fantastic secrets and treasures are entombed under all this snow and ice? Only by dealing with Auril herself and helping the near-frozen population of Icewind Dale can you hope to bring warmth and prosperity back to the land. This campaign is an open-world sandbox with a heavy mix of mystery. All players must pay close attention to details and take notes since there are many plotlines and characters in every town. If you’re a player who enjoys solving mysteries and immersing yourself in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, this is a campaign for you! Do NOT underestimate the enemy! I like to play my games with a good mix of role-playing and combat. The combat encounters in this adventure are challenging and long rests don’t come easy. I do not hold back on the monster’s abilities. It makes the characters feel more heroic when they succeed. Fear not, there is also a good amount of silly content which lightens the mood Character death is a serious possibility. I expect players to be smart about the decisions they make.

About me
Hello there! My name is Frank and I have been playing D&D for over 40 years (oh boy! That's a long time). I started playing in 1983 when my friends and I bought the original red box, not knowing what the game was about at the time. I just wanted to try something new and that red dragon on the cover looked SO cool. Since then, I've logged thousands of hours as a player and behind the GM screen running games for friends, family, local game stores, conferences such as GenCon and PAX, and professional games online. What to expect? - I bring to the table access to my DnDBeyond content and use the Beyond20 extension to push rolls on DnDBeyond to Roll20. - I prefer to run published modules but will heavily homebrew them and go off the rails for the stories to fit your character's backstories. - I spend many hours preparing for each session and you'll be able to tell - I bring lots of VTT maps from multiple sources and also lots of Roll20 addons and other fun stuff So, if you're looking for a group that's as much about role-play as it is about dungeon crawling, this is the place for you.

Creating your character
We will have a proper session 0 where I will go over my D&D house rules and we’ll create your character together and discuss background, backstory, etc. I like to incorporate the backstories into the adventure along the way. Any material from officially published 5e books are allowed to create characters, as long as they’re set in the Forgotten Realms, such as the following: • Player’s Handbook • Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide • Xanathar’s Guide to Everything • Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything • Mordenkainen’s Multiverse of Monsters • Any player material from adventure books *** NO EVIL CHARACTER ALLOWED *** *** NO FLYING RACES *** *** NO HOMEBREW *** ***** WE WILL ROLL FOR STATS IN PUBLIC *****
What to expect
Preparing for the session
1) D&D Beyond account required (free). Install the Google Chrome Beyond20 extension for ease of play. 2) Sign onto my Discord server. It's what we use to communicate in and out of game. You must to have a good mic and headset (test it) 3) If you don't have one, make a free account on Roll20. It's what I use as a Virtual Tabletop to display maps, tokens, etc. 4) Webcam not required but greatly recommended (I like to see my players). I expect everyone to be on time and ready for the session and expect them to stay for the entirety unless an emergency arises (life happens). I also expect people to stay in character as much as possible and I do not tolerate metagaming.
What Frank brings to the table
- I bring over four decades of DM'ing experience - You will have access to my compendium on D&D Beyond - I have my own Discord server with channels set up just for this game. - I will use lots of battlemaps / handouts - I bring music and atmosphere through Tabletop Audio (you do not need an account) - You'll hear tons of NPCs with silly voices - A sense of humor, fun, and a desire to see the players succeed

How Frank creates a safe table
During session 0, we will discuss the campaign setting and you'll get a general idea of what to expect. This will be a good opportunity to share your expectations with me. At mid-point during the game, we will take a 10 minutes break. After each session, I will ask you to share your stars and wishes. What did you like? What you didn't like? What would you like to change for next session? I run a mature game and any topic may come up at the table in game, if there are any specific lines you would like to avoid crossing please feel free to message me and I will make a note of it.
