About the adventure

DRAKKENHEIM IS NO MORE. Fifteen years ago the capitol city of Westemar was destroyed in a cataclysmic comet strike and now stands in ruin. The royal von Kessel family has disappeared in the aftermath, leaving no clear heirs. Horrific mutated creatures stalk the broken streets, emerging from the octarine-colored mist that contaminates what remains of the city. Scattered throughout are mysterious and valuable shards of concentrated magic known as "Delerium" -- the shattered remains of the comet that devastated the city. Some brave the contamination to collect it for profit and some for power, while others fear and seek to destroy it. Each adventurer who comes to Drakkenheim has their own personal quest which drives their decisions. Are you a long-lost heir to the von Kessel family seeking to rebuild the city and regain your crown? Have you dedicated yourself to research the cure for a family member who has been lost to contamination? Or is your fate tied to one of the five factions jockeying for control of the city and their own private goals? Will you ally yourself with the Hooded Lanterns, the remains of the city guard that are trying to protect and rebuild Drakkenheim? Are you a monster hunter, inspired by the Knights of the Silver Order in their quest to purge evil from the city? Were you taken as a child by the Amythyst Academy, trained in magic, and then sent here to help unlock the secrets of Delerium? Did you have an apocalyptic vision of a crashing comet that has led you here as a Follower of the Fallen Fire, making a pilgrimage to the crater? Or do you have an overwhelming debt that drives you to run the shadows with the Queen's Men as they work to ensure that the future of Drakkenheim is filled with "lucrative opportunities" for "enterprising individuals?" This campaign features a choices-and-consequences driven story in the sandbox-lite setting of the ruined city of Drakkenheim. Tactical combat is frequent, likely happening most sessions. There are ample role-playing opportunities, but with a focus on driving the story forward. The campaign is heavily character-driven as everyone's personal quests interact with each other, the player's choices, and the goals & machinations of the 5 major factions vying to control the city. The mysteries of the comet's legacy and the magical substance known as "Delerium" gradually unfold over the course of the campaign, drawing the party into horrific danger, political maneuvering, and the darkest corners of a city overrun with horrors. The story culminates with the characters deciding the very fate of the city itself. I use a heavily customized version of Foundry VTT which incorporates a significant amount of game automation, animated actions, and ambient audio. Featuring Foundry modules from: * Tim Posney, Iron Monk, Gambit, Chris and many others * theripper93: Argon Combat HUD, Carousel Combat Tracker, Simple Quest and more. About me

Peering deep into the past you see a young boy in corduroy pants sliding a red box off of a shelf in a wood-paneled living room. He stares at the dragon on the front cover of the box and asks, "What's this, it looks SOOOOO COOOOL!" Hi, I'm Tash (he/him) and I've been running and playing D&D since the early 80s. I have experience running every edition of D&D as well many other TTRPGs like Shadowrun, Ars Magica, Paranoia... In addition to the above, I've also played in World of Darkness games, East Texas University, Monster of the Week, Call of Cthulhu, and several others... I run a fun, friendly, and inclusive table with dynamic and engaging tactical combat as well as character-driven stories. I bring 40yrs of DMing experience, a well-stocked DnDBeyond Shared Campaign to create your characters in, and a highly tuned FoundryVTT tabletop environment with beautifully detailed and immersive maps. D&D is for Everyone, come join the fun!

Character creation

Creating your character

After you join the game I will send more detailed character creation guidelines, background information on the setting, and an invite to my discord server so you can ask questions and coordinate with the other players. A no-charge session 0 will kick-off the campaign with character introductions, an overview of safety tools, a how-to session on FoundryVTT, and the beginning of our adventure. Characters: * Are encouraged to have established relationships with each other and/or the setting. * Should be built in my DnDBeyond Campaign so they have access to an extensive library of sourcebooks * Will start at 3rd level, using the Point-Buy system for attributes. * Use Custom Origins so they are not locked-in to race-specific ability bonuses or features * Are encouraged to customize backgrounds to fit their character concept. Talk to me about options for backstories that tie into the story, I have ideas! * Can be any race from the current (non-legacy) versions in "Monsters of the Multiverse" and other sourcebooks. * Will each have their own "Personal Quest" which will grant them the equivalent of an ASI/Feat when they complete it. You can select from several available ones or work with me for a unique one tied to your custom background. * Start with their class's normal starting equipment + 250gp worth of other common gear.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

As a player you will need: * A Windows/Mac/Linux desktop or laptop (not a chromebook, tablet, ipad, or smartphone). * * That can run common games decently (it does not need to be fancy) * * With a web-browser (Chromium Based, or Safari - unfortunately Firefox has some compatibility issues and isn't recommended) * * With Headphones, a microphone, and a Webcam for video-chat. * * a quiet space to minimize background noises * A broadband internet connection * A (free) DnDBeyond * A (free) Discord account * Zoom client for voice/video chat If you have any questions or concerns about PC or ISP performance, please reach-out to me and we can arrange a time to test your setup. Most computers sold within the last 5-7yrs will work fine, and there are ways to turn down the settings on individual clients to improve performance. Any internet connection 100Mbps+ will run perfectly, and lower speeds will work but will have longer load times between scenes.

Safety

How Tash creates a safe table

Drakkenheim is a darker fantasy setting which features elements of cosmic horror. While this will _not_ be run specifically as a "horror" game, it will be somewhat grittier than the typical D&D published campaign and includes some graphic content and elements of body-horror. In order to make sure everyone is comfortable and enthusiastic about the content I will be setting expectations and utilizing a variety of safety tools: 1.. D&D is for Everyone. My table is inclusive, LGBTQ+ friendly, and harassment is not tolerated. 2. Open-Door policy - Questions, constructive feedback, or concerns are all very welcomed, and I am highly available over text or voice chat to discuss any questions or concerns about the game. 3. A no-charge Session-0 will start off the game and we'll go over all the safety tools being used and how to use them. 4. Every player must fill-out the provided Consent Checklist, which will be merged together and distributed back to players. 6. We will be taking at least one 5-10min break each session. Don't worry if you're not familiar with some of the safety tools - all will be explained in Session-0. These tools are here to make sure that everyone at the table has fun in a safe environment, and to improve communication and fun for everyone.
