About me

If you want a good balance between serious drama and utter ridiculousness, I'm your guy. I'll bring the emotional damage while dropping puns left and right. I got my start back in the early 90's but didn't truly find my passion for TTRPG's until I found 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons. I've also been running a few homebrewed Dragonlance campaigns for the last few years, and have happily introduced Krynn to many folks since. My games are always roleplay heavy, but can tailor any game to appeal to a group's needs and wants. Let's roll some dice!

Character creation

Creating your character

Check for the link to DnDBeyond to begin. You will see an assortment of unclaimed characters that you can choose from or you can make your own. The campaign in DnDBeyond will have all the info for creating a character for this particular one-shot. If making a character, please have it complete before we meet for our game.

The current party

This one shot takes place at a lower tier magical academy on the world of Krynn (Home of the Dragonlance setting). You will all be students at Tarsis Community Conservatory of Intermediate Sorcery located in the landlocked former port city of Tarsis in the Plains of Dust. You are all working towards your great Tests of High Sorcery hoping to become one of the few proud Wizards of High Sorcery. While this school doesn't particularly teach "High" Sorcery, they claim that 33% of the alumni have passed their Tests and gone on to be amongst the White, Red, and Black Robed mages of fame. Don't ask about the other 67%, you don't want to know... You'll be playing 2nd level Wizards and Sorcerers, and there will be plenty of Pre-generated characters to choose from or you can of course make your own in DnDBeyond with all content shared and available.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You need a webcam, mic, and preferably headphones. Everything we will be using can be done through a web browser. But there is a benefit to using Chrome, as there is an extension called Beyond20 that allows you to roll dice in DnDBeyond and have those dice rolls automatically appear in Roll20.

What Matty brings to the table

You'll have access to every official character creation release to use in DnDBeyond, along with a character pool of handmade characters if you'd rather not make your own. We'll also be using Roll20 for visuals, handouts, and potential combat. Roll20 will also provide (optional) background music that will go with the flow of the story. As for me and my style, I am very improvisational, and love to say "Yes, and..." whenever possible. I give my NPC's very ridiculous names, very often puns or just the most random thing to enter my head. A great joke or a pun will often gain you DM Inspiration, and in my games, DM Inspiration is always a automatic Natural 20. If you want to try something not written in the rules, go ahead and ask, I'm easy to convince if you have a fun idea and/or compelling argument. That said, everyone should be aware of the lines and veils of your fellow players and respect those boundaries. Player safety at my tables is paramount, and anyone that knowingly crosses a line with intent to harm will be dropped immediately. So let's just have a silly time together and make some memories.

Safety

How Matty creates a safe table

I will have a linked consent checklist for everyone to add to, there will be X,N, & O cards in game if needed, along with direct messaging. Anyone should also feel free to step away at anytime, but we will have a brief 5-10 min break halfway through. Always happy to stay behind if players want to give out some Stars to their fellow players for things they did in game.
