About the adventure
Hello! Welcome to the Sword Mountains! Our story will begin in the sleepy town of Phandalin where new adventures have sprouted up under rumors of a dragon terrorizing the countryside. Will you shoulder the call and help this blossoming frontier town fend off this enemy?! Explore the depths of forests, dark caves, towering peaks and old castles in this whimsical and dangerous adventure to deal with the Dragon of Icespire Peak! Come and join this table for a trip into a rich story of character development and learning the rules and fun of Dungeons and Dragons! This is a space where asking questions and learning the rules is encouraged. Every player will have a Session Zero (a one-on-one with myself the Dungeon Master) to talk about what kind of character you want to play and explain/work through Character Creation together! This is a fun adventure but as you grow you'll learn much of the world, your character, and your class of choice! This game is a beginner's adventure but that doesn't mean only beginners can join! If you've a seasoned vet, feel free to hop on in!

About me
I always had a knack for imagination and a deep love of fantasy in any form, video games and novels were my escape. A desire for more control and important impact in the stories I adored drew me into D&D, and I've embraced it in full. My friends and even my coworkers all know me as the D&D guy and I've hosted dozens of games for friends and family, I thought it might be time to open myself to the wider world. Come and experience some truly wonderous stories and adventures, pulled from the mind of yours truly! -J

Creating your character
We will have a session zero for every new player that joins after the start day, either sometime during the week or the day of session, whichever works best for you as a player. I'm open to almost any character idea, if you have an idea, let me know and I'll make it happen!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
For the first session, make sure you've created an account on D&D Beyond, you don't need to be a subscriber or own any of the materials, you'll have access to all of mine through the group. Discord is our means of communication (Please have a mic, no camera required!), link will be in the adventure section once you've joined the group. Lastly we use D&D Beyond Maps for our VTT so it is super easy to use!
What Jacob brings to the table
Access to almost every 5e sourcebook (via D&D beyond), tons of reference photos, rules docs, maps, and tons of other resources! As it is a beginner's group, I'll be sticking to the rules but will not be harsh on them. We will find the flow together but give you a strong basis for playing D&D!
Homebrew rules
Twist of Fate: A unique form of inspiration that the party must vote to use as a table, this form of inspiration can be used on *any* roll, even ones that I make as a DM. There is 1 Twist of Fate per session. Criticals: Dice Double + Mods for total damage. Potions: Bonus Action for you to drink, Action to Administer to another character. Recap Inspo: Whoever does the Recap for last session gets Heroic Inspiration at the beginning of the session!

How Jacob creates a safe table
During our first session (Session Zero) we will figure out how to bring the party together from our individual characters but also learn what everyone's expectations are of both myself as a DM and as a table at large. This will tell the group what kind of content we want to see or not to see. We will also go over our lines and veils, how X cards will function, and how our breaks will run. I will make space after each session to debrief and ask questions and talk tech if anyone needs that but my biggest priority is to make sure you as a player are engaged and enjoying your epic adventure. Additionally, my direct messages are always open if you need something relating to the game during the week.
