About the adventure

The Queen of Elturgard offers great rewards to any adventurers intrepid enough to delve into the depths of Candlekeep and help her solve these ongoing mysteries. Candlekeep is the greatest library on The Sword Coast, perhaps in the entire world. Surely its vast collection of books must hold the answer. Or perhaps they lead to even greater mysteries and adventures...Candlekeep Mysteries is an anthology adventure from WotC that collects 17 "one-shots" balanced for increasing levels of parties (1-17) all centered around the famous library. Players are welcome to drop in and out at any leg of the campaign, however those who play all the way through will be treated to a cohesive narrative that ties them all together into an epic quest to bring peace and prosperity to Faerun.

About me

Louis has been playing and DMing Dungeons and Dragons for 4 years. His style leans heavily towards roleplay, but he also likes to run tactical battles where the enemies are smart and coordinated to challenge his players and encourage them to push the limits of their abilities. Louis is a sketch comedy writer and voice actor, and he loves to build his worlds with engaging NPCs. He strives to create a unique voice and personality for everyone the party interacts with. Games are mostly run via AboveVTT and Discord for voice and text. Tl;dr: This DM prioritizes the following in descending order: 1) Roleplay 2) Combat 3) Exploration 4) Political Intrigue

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation: -Level 1 to start -Any sourcebook -Standard Array or Point Buy I would prefer you create your character before the first session, however there will be a Session 0 that is friendly and open to new players if you want help with that process. Some quests may take more than one session, but the campaign overall is designed to level up after each quest, so progression should happen fairly quickly. If your PC dies for any reason, you will NOT be punished by starting over at a lower level than the rest of the party. You will be able to rejoin with a backup character at the same level. I have never told a player they can't build a particular race or class from any sourcebook. To me, D&D is a diverse world, and I personally enjoy learning about various character options whenever a player brings one I've never encountered before. If your build is very obviously overpowered, we'll have a discussion about how to compromise to make it fair for everyone, but I encourage you to be as creative as you want when building your PC.

What Louis G. brings to the table

AboveVTT and Discord are the tools of my trade. AboveVTT is an open-source VTT that works well on Chrome and Firefox. It's free to download and install, and runs very smoothly with minimal issues. I use Discord for text and voice-chat, as well as providing background music during play sessions. Combat is fast-paced, challenging, and balanced. It is rare for a PC to die during one of my campaigns, but it is ALWAYS a real possibility. I know 5e rules very well, and I stick to them pretty closely, but many of them are open to interpretation. I like to be decisive and settle disputes in the moment, but I'm always up for a discussion if a player feels like something didn't quite feel right during a session. I do several character voices, and try to use them to distinguish my NPCs as much as possible. I enjoy role-play immensely and encourage it, but it is not a requirement as a player. If you are the kind of person who would rather say "My character says ____" instead of acting it out, that is completely fine with me. As a DM, it is also my solemn promise that if you stick with this campaign you will encounter Dungeons to explore as well as Dragons to speak with and/or battle against.

Safety

How Louis G. creates a safe table

Players can privately message me any time with concerns or questions, and I will always take them seriously. Consent and agency are highly important to me. In general, the tone of my games is PG-13, and I hardly ever role-play scenarios that have anything to do with romance or sexuality. These topics are not banned at my table by any means, it's just that I don't typically factor them into the adventure or setting. One thing I do not tolerate is harassment, especially in the form of players telling other players how to build or run their character. It's one thing if a player asks another for advice/feedback, but I have no patience for players taking agency away from one another, or telling someone their character build is "wrong" in some way. I do not condone SA in any shape or form. If a player harasses or threatens another player (or NPC) in this manner, they will be asked to please find another table.
