Of Cheridan, Village of the Phoenix (Free Session 0, All Skill Levels, Beginner Friendly, LGBTQIA+ Inclusive)
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
The world of Ne’erdell has been overrun by monsters. The forces of darkness weren’t completely successful in their campaign against the forces of light, but they made the world pay for every meter of ground they lost. In the end, light won out, but was extinguished - allowing death and decay to bloom in it’s wake. Now you, and the other residents of this world must pick up the pieces and try to build a life worth living. Our story begins amongst the humble porches and shopfronts of the two-horse town of Cheridan, who had put out the call for adventurers willing to help them rebuild in exchange for a stake in the town’s future. Over the course of 10-15 sessions, you’ll help Cheridan rise from the ashes of the greatest conflict to ever touch the lands of Ne’erdell. Will the village of the phoenix return to the thriving community it was before the onset of war? That is up to you! Great for players new and old to D&D 5e!
We'll be taking characters from Level 1 to Level 6/7 over 10-15 sessions!

Sam is an excellent GM; he's great at guiding new and experienced players through systems and creating an inclusive and fun environment for collaborative storytelling. He somehow manages to pack each session with interesting worldbuilding, compelling NPCs, and so many chances for each player to shine. Would absolutely recommend.
Sam is a master of lush and vivid settings, colorful and distinct characters, and terrifying (but in a fun way!) creatures. His enthusiasm and kindness were evident from the first moments of our session zero. He expertly balances the enjoyment of all players at the table alongside the enforcement of game mechanics & consequences of player actions. He has also gone above and beyond to provide the players with written recaps/notes between sessions of our campaign. Highly recommend!
Sam runs a great game. He’s an excellent storyteller and keeps everyone at the virtual table engaged and excited with vivid descriptions, interesting characters, and great pacing (not to mention the end-of-session cliffhangers). He gives every character a chance in the spotlight and every player the opportunity to add to the setting and story in meaningful ways. It’s a joy to play with someone who encourages such a collaborative space and is ready and excited to improvise with whatever nonsense the players throw their way.
Sam creates worlds with depth and detail but still plenty of space for player contributions, which are seamlessly integrated into the story as the world grows. My first game with Sam was in a system I had some familiarity with but had never actually played, but Sam made every review of the rules feel like we were all excitedly learning together. A very productive session zero resulted in session one feeling like the group had been playing together for ages, despite many of us being strangers. Playing with Sam is an incredible opportunity for both new and veteran players to experience the best a narrative system has to offer.

How to prepare
Everyone must have the following: - A computer microphone of some kind (I would also strongly recommend that you have a webcam) - A Zoom account - A Roll20 account - A D&D Beyond account - A Discord account - Access to Google docs
What I provide
I'll provide a Roll20 environment for important conflicts, as well as the village of Cheridan itself (which will grow as the game continues), and we'll keep character sheets together in a D&D Beyond digital campaign. Smaller encounters will be run "theater of the mind" style. For the most part, my GM style leans into Rule of Cool - I want to encourage you to make the fun choice, not always the safe one!
Gameplay details
Session 0 will be a free session to go over the game, rules, setting, tone, and player characters as well as initial conversations about Lines & Veils, and the creation of physical X/N/O cards to be held up or messaged during play. From there, we'll jump right into the game starting with Session 1!

How will character creation work
We will walk through the creation of Level 1 adventurers as a group during our Session 0, but everyone is encouraged to bring 1-3 character concepts with them so we have a place to start. I would advise you not to look at skills or abilities after Level 6, as I expect that's the furthest level we'll achieve during the course of the game.
