About the adventure

Walking through the streets of your home town, you see the black flags of the kingdom flying from poles and the tops of government buildings. The tromp of steel-shod boots on the stone paving and the rattle of armor as black-guards make their way, shadowed by the heavily armored knights and sorcerers of the "king." It wasn't always like that. You were there, in fact. You could only watch as the Usurper himself put a blade through your lord and master's heart. The screams of rage from you and your fellow knights still haunt your dreams as your weapons and magic reaped amongst the warriors the Usurper brought with him on that dark day. The queen, a peerless tactician and the sword of the king, held the door as you and your comrades, brothers and sisters in arms, fled with the infant heir. The chamberlain, most trusted and beloved of the kings court, took the swaddled bundle and made his way towards obscurity, his promise lingering in the air... That was twenty years ago. You had waited like the others, looking forward to taking the throne back and avenging your lost, beloved friends. Days turned to weeks, weeks to months, and months to years. What did you do as you waited? Build a house, start a business, fall in love, start a family? Or perhaps you held onto the glory days of the past and kept your blade sharp? It's always when life seems to be so simple and easy when something bad happens... Take on the role of a former knight of a kingdom lost to a coup by the Usurper. It's been years since you last wore that armor, and time has an impact on everyone. A grizzled war veteran, scarred by the loss of friends, family, and hope as a monster takes the throne once held by someone you loved, brought out of peace to surround themselves with conflict. Become that warrior again and take back what was lost!

About me

I have been running TTRPG campaigns since 2015. Started as a player, then moved up to running a session once every couple weeks. Now I'm doing it weekly, and I can't get enough. I love to write and build worlds, and this lets me be every character I've ever written. I'm happy as the Forever DM, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my worlds with others!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be made and discussed during Session 0 where lore, backgrounds, and personal information about the characters will be shared and added to the lore of the world. Characters will start at level 5 and be speed leveled up to 15, representing these characters loss of capabilities and getting it all back to take on the enemy. We will be using the Avrae Discord bot to roll stats. They will be made on Roll20 after sufficient discussion has been had. All books and published official content by WotC are allowed.

The current party

**Half-off your Session 0 and Session 1 for all new and returning players!!!** We are currently starting back up at level 7! We have a Human Champion Fighter, a Wood Elf Drake Warden Ranger, a Dragonborn Giant Barbarian, a Draconic lineage Fire Genasi, and a Human Illusionist Wizard (battlefield control). This is a medieval fantasy D&D5e campaign set in a world where the bad guy won over 20 years previously. You take on the role of one of the knights of the old guard, a scarred war veteran who had a place in the previous kings court and had, at one point, called him a friend. You watched him die at the hands of the Usurper, witnessed the queen giving her life to give you and your fellow knights a chance to escape, and gave the infant heir to the chamberlain who fled with it. Now its 20 years later, and your hope to end the Usurper has been worn out. You have a life now living somewhere out of the way, perhaps with a family, and spend time with old comrades every now and then. Perhaps you tried to stay on top of it and keep fit, or you let it all go to live a different life, seeing your old armor and weapons as trophies of a life you'd rather forget. However you choose, it's always when you're the most comfortable that something happens. Whether its needing to use the restroom right as you get warm in the covers, or you've left the life of blood and steel behind, always something: An old reminder of your previous life finds you, and the horn for rebellion calls that pulls you away from what is now comfortable. Old traumas, the nightmares, and the loss still lays heavily on your soul, but peace only comes after fire... ... at least, that's how you've always achieved it...

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A microphone and accounts on both Discord and Roll20 will be needed to participate in the campaign. Discussions about characters, lore, and backgrounds will be had during Session 0 - alongside cool stuff, titles, and "contacts" will be talked about as well.

What CryptMaster brings to the table

I will be providing custom maps and player tokens for the Roll20 VTT environment. I have quite a lot of the books purchased and shared using the R20 compendium so there are a lot of options. I will be ATTEMPTING to use voices for the different characters. Combat will be hard and tactical. Use of cover, concealment, and using your weapons and abilities appropriately will prove the difference between life or death. Enemies will be actively trying to kill you. I will keep it fun, but I won't be pulling punches. I enjoy the Rule of Cool. Tell me how this grizzled badass former knight slaughters his way through a gang of mooks with his signature weapon and armor after coming out of retirement. Want to use a mook as a weapon against another mook? DO IT! I love it all very, very much.
