About the adventure

Beginners and experienced players alike are welcome in all of my games. This game is D&D5e set in the classic Dragonlance setting, but you do not have to have any knowledge of the setting before playing. I've been running this setting in 5e for a few years now, and have extensively homebrewed much of what we'll be using. A large majority of the players in my Dragonlance games have never read a book or knew anything about the setting, and it's never been a hinderance. It's high fantasy in a world recovering from a massive war. There are gods who have recently returned to the world that grant powers to the truest believers, there is magic that is protected by a conclave of spell casters, and there are dragons with the power to nearly rival those newly returned gods. But this isn't your dad's Krynn, because you can play a Tiefling (humanoid with a fiendish ancestry), a Dragonborn (a draconic humanoid that is similar to Draconians from this setting, but are indeed distinct), and much more. I run very story heavy games with ample opportunities for extensive roleplay and encourage my players to add to the world with their storytelling. I am very "Yes, and.." oriented when I run games and enjoy rewarding player creativity. So if you have an idea that might not be "to the book", run it by me, it may still work. So if you enjoy telling stories as a group where everyone is responsible for the fun, then look no further.

About me

If you want a good balance between serious drama and utter ridiculousness, I'm your guy. I'll bring the emotional damage while dropping puns left and right. I got my start back in the early 90's but didn't truly find my passion for TTRPG's until I found 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons. I've also been running a few homebrewed Dragonlance campaigns for the last few years, and have happily introduced Krynn to many folks since. My games are always roleplay heavy, but can tailor any game to appeal to a group's needs and wants. Let's roll some dice!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created in DnDBeyond. All players will be given a Campaign link to join, and from there you will have access to everything official and all of my homebrewed races and classes. Character creation can begin at any time, but it usually works best to come into our Session 0 with flexibility in what you want to play, as players will have an opportunity to chat potential shared backstories and/or any desire or need for party balance. Characters should be completed before Session 1. Some key points to know for creating a character: 👶 First? Level (The players as a group can decide what level they would like their party to start. 1st, 3rd, 5th, 20th, anything is on the table and I have a lot of experience running and playing high level games in this system, so it's all up to you.) 🥳 Take a Free Feat (unless the Background you choose gives you a free Feat already) 🎲 Stats: Standard Array of 16, 15, 14, 12, 11, 10 OR Roll (4d6, drop the lowest die, Roll 7 times, drop the lowest Roll) OR Roll using the DnDBeyond dice roller in the character creation tab labeled Abilities (Roll 3 sets of stat rolls and choose the set you prefer out of the 3) ⚔️ You may choose either Starting Equipment based on class and background or you may roll for Gold and purchase your equipment from the Players Handbook. 📝 Do review the Mattyverse Krynn document in the Google Drive for guidance.

The current party

Scheduling for this game is completely flexible, as is the frequency. This can be weekly or every-other-week, based on player availability and preference. Pre-generated characters are available for anyone that would like to use one.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a webcam and mic with a stable internet connection. I would suggest using a Google Chrome browser and installing the extension Beyond20, as that will allow you to roll in DnDBeyond, while having those rolls show up in the Roll20. Bring with you a completed character sheet in DnDBeyond. Also, for your token in Roll20, you can go to HeroForge.com and create a character there, share with me the Link to that character once complete, and I can quickly create a token within HeroForge for the game. But if you have character art already, I can also turn that into a token as well.

What Matty brings to the table

So many puns. You have been warned. I also have a Master account with DnDBeyond and own all content related to character creation, so you will have access to nearly everything official from WotC. You will be using this to create and maintain your character(s) for this game. I have a Pro account with Roll20 and will be utilizing the virtual table top to handle battlescapes, provide any potential in-game handouts, a place to track dice rolls and the battle turn order. This will also serve as the provider of our in-game background music (of which you can choose to listen or not). I have a Pro account with Zoom and will use that for our video calls and usually the key place for in-game background chat amongst the players and DM. I also bring with me a lot of creativity, a knack for unique character voices and interactions, and years of improv experience.

Safety

How Matty creates a safe table

For safety, I use an amalgamation of many different safety tools for a balance that keeps everyone safe and able to enjoy their time together. * A minimum one hour Session 0, where everyone can meet before the first game is always a must. This Session 0 will of course be free of charge. You don't have to pay extra for safety. A Session 0 helps to establish our safety tools, it allows for players to meet and chat about character creation, and allows all of us to set up the game we all want to play. * I will also send a spreadsheet for folks to review any potential triggers with a long list of potential subjects and allow everyone to mark lines and veils. Once complete, everyone will have a fuller picture of where the group is on individual subjects, etc. * We will also employ digital X, N, & O cards in Roll20, and you can also private message me in Zoom with X,N,O as well.
