About me

Hi there! I'm DM Yaz, an IRL adventurer and storyteller. Adventurer: I've travelled the breadth of the world, crossing desolate landscapes, drifting lazily down lush rainforest rivers, diving coral reefs and frigid lakes, pampering myself in tropical paradises, nearly been eaten by tigers (twice!), braving some of the most "dangerous" cities in the world, visiting remote villages with no modern technology, witnessing diverse cultural and religious practices, and meeting amazing people from all walks of life. Storyteller: I love telling stories. Like many of you, I grew up reading them. More recently, I listen to audiobooks and D&D live-plays, and read (or make up) stories for my kids. and This has lead me to the joy of using unique voices (accents and attitudes) for the characters. Over the past 5 years of being a DM, I've discovered my creative outlet. I channel all that creative energy into crafting unique stories, worlds, and people into which to immerse your character. My recipe for gaming success: Take this dragon's hoard of real world experience, season with years of gaming experience, sprinkle in a knack for accents, and add a love of telling stories. Mix into a cauldron made imagination to get a magical adventure set in a unique world, which we shall reshape through with our combined imaginations. There's only one missing ingredient to make this the most delicious adventure possible: YOU. Customization: Are you looking for homebrew or custom campaigns? I'd be happy to workshop something with you & your friends to create the campaign of your dreams. I may ask a higher rate than listed because of the increased work required. I'm looking forward to playing with you!

Character creation

Creating your character

Please have your characters prepared for Level 1, with an idea of backstory, but we can worship it. My preference is that you use dndbeyond, and to give me visibility into the character sheets. We will tailor the backstory to fit the world, and tailor the world to fit the backstory. Antonio Demico/Pointy Hat (@antodemico) has a great video on how to create a compelling character. The current party

Thursday evening 8pm Eastern (No games the second Thursday of each month) Seeking warm, welcoming, creative, and fun people to join.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You need to know nothing about the source material, but it's ok if you've watched Critical Role. We're using the Exandria setting, but the moment your characters step foot into it, it becomes ours. Some things will be similar, some familiar, and many completely new. You'll need a mic and/or camera, and I'll invite you to the game on Quest Portal. If you want, have a headshot of your character ready. If you don't have one, I can assign one until you do.

What Yaz brings to the table

My role is to tell your story, and to adjudicate the rules. Much of our adventure will be theatre of the mind, with maps coming out for some encounters, or some locations. I'll bring role-play backdrops, battle and exploration maps as needed, music, and engaging encounters with NPCs (voice acting!), some puzzles and monsters.

Homebrew rules

Various homebrew rules will be covered during your session 0. Rule of Cool is in play.

Safety

How Yaz creates a safe table

I included almost all the categories for content warnings because I'm willing to facilitate my players approaching almost any topic, as long as EVERYBODY at the table feels safe to do so. These are all things that /could/ appear in the game, either because they are in the source, because they are interesting to broach, design or by happenstance. We will have at Session 0, in which we will discuss: * Campaign: Fine tuning for player preferences and goals * Character Options and Backstory * Homebrew rules * Safety Tools
