About the adventure

You are an elite members of the Sparkwrights Guild. You have been tasked by the Emperor himself with maintaining the lightning barrier, the only thing keeping the citizens of Doskvol safe the horrors of the Deathlands. Doskvol is a gothic steampunk city, powered by refined demon blood. It’s up to you to keep it safe. ⚡ Fight a demon while soaring through the air in your sparkcraft dirigible! ⚡ Protect the city from a cursed leviathan while sailing under the ocean in your submersible! ⚡ Race in your autocarriage to stop a Deathlands cult from breaching the lightning barrier! Blades in the Dark is set in the eternally night city of Doskvol. In this world the dead never stay dead, their spirits come back to haunt the living. The world outside the city is ravaged by these spirits, and worse. This campaign uses a lightly modified version of the Blades in the Dark rules. Instead of earning Reputation, you earn the Respect of your fellow sparkwrights and your superiors at the Ministry of Preservation. The modified rules can be found here: https://thisisvictor.itch.io/sparkwrights-playbook The campaign will be three sessions long. Half of the first session will be dedicated to session zero. About me

I started playing RPGs in college, many years ago. I ran and played in games for years. After college I drifted away from gaming. Jump forward to 2020. The pandemic hit and I couldn't do any of my normal social activities. A friend of a friend invited me to their online RPG group and I was sucked back in. Since then I've been running multiple games a week, almost exclusively online. My games are narrative and story driven. Your character will main character. Their actions and decisions will drive the narrative forward. But the world around you is living and breathing! A side character introduced in session one may become important in session four. An ignored plot hook might turn into a real problem two sessions latter. 🏳️‍🌈, BLM, ACAB, Free Palestine. My games are a welcoming space for everyone.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation in Blades in the Dark is fast and easy. Partially made characters will be provided, we’ll finish them during the first session. Example characters include: - A disgraced professor of the occult - A tinkerer with inventions they can’t control - A grizzled veteran, worn down by the horrors they’ve seen

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please have a working microphone. Having your webcam on is encouraged but never required. We will use Discord for voice/video chat. Please make an account if you need to. There’s no need to read the rules or do any specific homework before the session starts. If you want to explore the mechanics before we start, watch the YouTube video “Obstacles & Actions Rolls in Blades in the Dark” by John Harper. There a link in the description of that video to some helpful reference sheets as well.

What Victor Lane brings to the table

I will bring all the PDFs, rules and lore needed to play the game.

Safety

How Victor Lane creates a safe table

We will start with a discussion of lines and veils. Lines are thing that will never happen and veils are things that we will “fade to black” on. Blades in the Dark is set in a dark gothic city where bad things happens, but we can adjust any part of the fiction to suit your needs. Lines and veils are not set in stone, we can change them at any time. I enforce a firm “open door policy”. Any player can leave for any reason, at any time, and rejoin at any time or not rejoin at all, as they need.
