About the adventure
Introduction Night has fallen on Ten Towns for two years as the goddess Auril has taken to the sky each night to weave her Everlasting Rime, keeping the region in the cold and dark and cut off from the rest of the Sword Coast. Frozen Truths of Icewind Dale The sun hasn’t risen in two years and this unbroken night has frozen all the routes into and out of Ten Towns, cutting it off from the rest of the Sword Coast The Children of Auril have gained control of many aspects of the Ten Towns and have begun to demand sacrifices to appease the Frostmaiden Secrets long buried and forgotten lie under the ice and have begun to emerge unexpectedly Shadowy figures have begun to slink out of the mountains where they have been hammering upon strange black metal. The Blood War between demons and devils has spilled out into the tundra where the planes overlap The Heroes We Have Cut off from the rest of the world, you are not heroes barging in to save a noble stranger, you are neighbors who have been hardened by the brutal conditions that surround you and trying to improve your lot before there is not lot to improve.

About me
Hello! I have been playing D&D since 4th edition and only recently dipped my toe into Game Mastering. I have a Master’s Degree in literature and love the intersection of gameplay and narrative that TTRPGs provide. Similarly, I enjoy facilitating game cultures that can be story and rp heavy as well as those that are game and “winning” focused.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Character creation will occur during session 0 and will start at level 1. Before character creation starts, each player will roll to determine which secret their character will have. We will utilize D&D Beyond for character creation and use point buy for stats. After character creation is done, each player will roll for an Icewind Dale trinket. This campaign makes use of character secrets that can be character defining, so please come to the session 0 with an open mind as to what your character could be as we build them together. You can choose character options from the Player’s Handbook, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, and Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. In addition to core Player’s Handbook races, you can choose the goliath and firbolg races. You can also use the Customizing Your Origin feature from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. Other races can be chosen on a case by case basis. If your chosen background does not come with a feat, you will be able to choose a feat during character creation. Things to remember when creating your character: Your character has joined with your companions to help the people of Ten Towns survive the icy dangers in the endless night. Build well rounded characters able to interact with the denizens of Icewind Dale, survive the frozen tundra, and battle the beasts hunting in the darkness
Free Session 0 and then weekly sessions every Friday.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
At minimum, you will need access to D&D Beyond, Discord with a working microphone, and a way to view and interact with Owlbear Rodeo. Dice rolling can happen in either D&D Beyond or Owlbear Rodeo based off of your preference. Video is optional although I will try to be on video at all times.
What Jared brings to the table
Access to sourcebooks in D&D Beyond, maps and tokens in Owlbear Rodeo, and a willingness and hope to be surprised by my players. I begin prepping for the next session immediately after our session and typically finish an hour before said session. I believe in rulings not rules and believe that the mechanics serve to enhance the story, not that story should be bound by mechanics.

How Jared creates a safe table
This adventure features themes of darkness, extreme cold, murder, isolation, and paranoia. Preliminary Lines - This game will not contain physical violence towards children, unwanted sexual contact, animal abuse or cruelty, party-initiated torture, inter-party violence, inter-party betrayal, or real world racism, sexism, homophobia, or transphobia. Preliminary Veils - Cannibalism, mental assault, ritual sacrifice, kidnapping, consensual sex, enemy-initiated torture, or parasitic invasion will be “veiled” off-screen. If at any time you don’t feel comfortable with the content or direction of the game, say “pause for a second” in voice chat and we will stop the game and address your concerns. I will typically be in Discord Voice approximately 15 minutes before the start of session for any questions before game as well as socializing. I can also almost always be reached via direct message between games. Breaks will occur at the approximate halfway point of the session or as needed. This game is very roleplay and exploration focused as the characters navigate both Ten-Towns as well as the surrounding region, discovering much of the frozen north.
