The Call of the Netherdeep // An Epic Critical Role Campaign

The Call of the Netherdeep // An Epic Critical Role Campaign

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

We’re halfway through one of the most immersive and compelling pre-written adventure modules ever created—crafted by Critical Role’s own Matt Mercer. This is a story of epic proportions, and though we’ve lost a few players due to life’s twists and turns, the adventure must go on. If you’re ready to step into the spotlight, join us and help bring this incredible tale to its climactic conclusion. Centuries ago, a mythic hero from Exandria’s past became ensnared in a prison of his own making—a labyrinth of psychological torment and despair. Now, you are called to embark on a journey to rescue him from the shadows of his mind, rekindling his hope and unlocking the secrets he holds. What makes this campaign special? It’s more than a game—it’s a collaborative story where every decision shapes the narrative. You'll step into a world rich with lore, face unforgettable challenges, and leave your mark on Exandria’s history. Whether you're drawn to complex character arcs, gripping moral dilemmas, or the thrill of epic battles, this is your chance to shine. The ending is in sight, but it won’t happen without you. SPOILERS: We are currently in a city far from the coasts of Wildemount, on the continent of Marquet. You seek an entrance to a lost city beneath the earth's crust, where you hope to find a sign from the gods, who have walked with you every step of the way thus far.

Party notes

Every Thursday night! We're currently at Level 7 out of 13, searching for a sunken ruin! Just beginning a new story arc on a new continent. It's a great time to join the campaign.

I did a webinar with Isaac. He was really helpful in showing us how to write our copy. Very personable and pleasant. And all his games sound super fun!

Isaac has built a wonderful and supportive community of players. His pacing in game is good, but still allows the players ample time to explore the world and roleplay as much as they are comfortable. He is very much a “player first” DM and does not railroad you through the story.

I spent many hours delving through GM’s on startplaying trying to look for the right one for me. I read many bios, and exchanged messages. I was even a player for a few different games but they fell apart because of the lack of participation or the GM was intentionally rude and wanted to kill his players (in game). I was distraught and worried that I wouldn’t find community. It was when I lost hope that I stumbled onto one of Isaac’s games. I am beyond thankful to be apart of Isaac’s stories. He is passionate, caring, respectful, creative, and fun. He cares about is players. He interacts with you outside the game, and makes time for you. I joined a game that had been meeting for sometime, which made me feel pretty nervous because I was joining a party and a group that were friends already and had experienced some of the story. I felt right at home! The group was very welcoming and kind. I felt part of the team immediately. A lot of that had to do with the 1 on 1 I had with Issac before I joined. I knew after that 1 on 1, Issac would be a GM I would come back to. Having been in a ongoing campaign for the last 2 months, I can confidently say, I have that same opinion. I’m already looking forward to the next campaign with him.

Isaac is an ideal DM. He himself is very laid-back and welcoming, and the games he runs are inviting and fun. He's a talented voice actor armed with a bevy of fun and distinct voices that inhabit the characters of the world. He sets scenes well with verbal descriptions, music, and visuals, making the games very immersive and transportive. Its an environment that doesn't just allow for player creativity, but fosters it. Our group has a great vibe and is developing a lovely synergy, and much of that is down to Isaac.

I love playing with Isaac! I'm in a few campaigns with him and have really enjoyed my time in Duskvol playing Blades in the Dark! Isaac is very open to our crew's wild and wacky suggestions and has built a wonderfully real and gritty world with us. Actions have consequences that throw our characters for a loop and make sense in our world of spies and thieves and also allows our characters to shine. No heist or job is too small to add a story-changing complication!

I'm several sessions deep a mini campaign for The One Ring system/setting, and I’m absolutely loving the experience! Isaac has really captured the cozy, adventurous vibe of playing hobbits in Middle-earth. There’s warmth and camaraderie, but also just the right amount of danger to keep things exciting. He also makes plenty of space for roleplaying, encouraging us to really dive into our characters. His NPCs are wonderfully memorable, and the voices he uses bring them to life in a way that makes the world feel truly immersive. His relaxed, easygoing atmosphere makes each session enjoyable, and I appreciate how Isaac helps me navigate the rules without feeling overwhelmed as it's my first time playing ToR. Isaac's ability to balance storytelling, roleplaying, and tension makes him an excellent DM for anyone wanting to explore Middle-earth (or anywhere else I imagine). I can't recommend him enough!

How to prepare

Required: ✅ Microphone ✅ D&D Beyond account ✅ Discord account ✅ Roll20 account ✅ Beyond 20 extension (available on Google Chrome or Firefox) Suggested: 🙏 Webcam // I don't require anyone to use a webcam if they don't want to, but it will absolutely enhance the experience of the game if we are all visible to each other. Faces are great for improv! Please familiarize yourself with the rules and with your character abilities before the game. I'm available to talk about the safety tools, the fantasy world we'll be playing in, and about our characters' relationships to each other before we play!

What I provide

I have a Master Tier D&D Beyond account and a Plus Monthly Roll20 account, so all your digital needs will be taken care of. No matter your experience level, I set a welcoming, inviting tone at my games. Your questions are good, your baggage from your last game is not too much, your experience matters to me! Pull up a chair, friend. I’m a musician and an artist at heart, so I love incorporating graphic design elements, musical soundtracks and ambient noise, beautiful maps, and character art to enhance the experience of the game. I think the biggest thing I bring to the table is a flair for the dramatic. I was a musical theater kid in high school. Character voices. Storytelling. High drama. Heartrending conflict. This is the stuff I like. Very much. I try to keep a good balance of combat and roleplaying (40-50% of game time) with some exploration and puzzles thrown in for flavor (5-10%). Sometimes one session ends up with more of one than the others, and I’m happy to adjust based on feedback.

Gameplay details

I have a digital RPG consent form I will distribute before the game so you can anonymously let me know what lines and veils you have before we begin. I also use X cards. If there's ever any part of the game that makes you uncomfortable or crosses a line (whether you put it on your lines and veils document or not), you can use an X card to pause the game, and we'll talk through how to move the game forward from there!
