About the adventure
In Monster of the Week: The Watch, you'll play a member of the Neighborhood Watch in your cozy little part of suburbia. However, your shifts always seem to encounter something a little bit more ... supernatural ... than the usual joyriding kids, mail-swiping thieves, and cannibalistic neighbors. But that's okay, because you have more powers and resources than the usual upstanding citizen of the neighborhood patrol: you're a Hunter. And you'll keep this neighborhood safe from monsters, aliens, cryptids, and pesky kids no matter the cost! No experience necessary, and every game is different, so come for more than one!

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hi! In addition to being a professional game master (both here on Start Playing Games and live-and-in-person), I'm a published short story horror author, and host of the horror-and-humor actual-play audio drama, The Gothic Podcast. I started gaming in the Way Back, beginning with the D&D Basic box set that I asked for for Christmas because I liked the dragon on the cover. And though I still love playing and running D&D (and its cousins, Pathfinder 1e & 2e), I have gleefully embraced many other systems, especially Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) games such as Monster of the Week. I also loves me some Ten Candles, City of Mist, Alien RPG, and many others. Oh, and Catthulhu! Meow...aaaarrrrrhhhhhhll! To keep up with what I'm offering and other gaming commentary check out my blog at https://www.c-patrick.com

Creating your character
Monster of the Week is a role-playing game based on the Powered By the Apocalypse game engine. It is rules-light with easy character creation based on 'playbooks' -- character archetypes. Before the game, you'll be able to go to Roll20 and choose a Playbook (SEE Prep Materials). Make sure you let the rest of us know your choice, though, either here or on the Discord server (SEE prep materials) so that we don't have duplicates.
The garbled message left in voicemail is difficult to piece together, but in the end the horror is clear: Franzi Never, nephew of one of the long-time members of The Watch, is lost ... somewhere inside of Doomberry's new IKEA store! Although there is little hope of rescuing him alive, what else is The Watch supposed to do but try? It is night, the doors of the IKEA are lit up. They seem to beckon. It is time to enter ...
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a computer/phone/tablet/something and a decent mic for connecting to our Discord voice channel. And you'll need to logon to Roll20 before the game (SEE Prep Materials) to choose a Playbook and create a hunter. And that's about all you'll need.
What GM Mr Patrick brings to the table
Our Monster of the Week games are primarily played using Theater of the Mind, with imagery, music, and character sheets (and automated rolling) provided through Roll20. Our Monroe Street Discord server (SEE Prep Materials) is where we'll have pre-game chatter, as well as a voice channel for game-day play.

How GM Mr Patrick creates a safe table
This game will contain horror, gore, and mature themes not suitable for every gamer. That said, the GM likes to keep things PG-13 to Lovecraftian-horror R-Rated. We will also talk about, and use, gaming safety tools such as lines, veils, and the X Card.
