About the adventure

In the centuries after Eoman, the first of the Deathlords, launched a war against the world of Doa and made himself a God, there has been peace. In the east the free kingdoms have grown rich and fat while the sable knights guard the spine of the world against fresh invasions from the dark lands to the west. But new and strange creatures have ventured into the mountain passes, twisted by dark magic. There are whispers of a secret cult, Eoman worshipers, who slit throats in the dark, and plot against the thrones of elves, dwarves, and man-folk. The forge fires blaze in dark towers of Vecnalia, and new Deathlords vie for their master’s favor. Will the west cover Doa in darkness again or will new heroes rise to bring the world back into balance? You are invited to create an original character to rise from local hero to world saving legend in an expansive original world. Doa is a versatile sandbox style campaign designed to give players the ultimate freedom. Your party can steep themselves in lore and swim the currents of politics and power determined to become legendary saviors--or, set out to slay monsters, drink ale, and bathe in piles of plundered gold. The choice is up to you! Doa features original monsters, magic items, subclasses, and locations designed to keep even the most experienced D&D player guessing. Also, an ever expanding lore channel on Discord, will provide players with material on the history of the gods, nations, and heroes of Doa. Who knows, maybe your epic character will find their way into the legends! Game Zero provided, including help with character and background design help you get started whether begining at level one, or jumping in with a group in progress. Players can expect an immersive role play experience, where character actions have real consequences in the game world at large. Combat is challenging and varied, from a quick skirmish to a running fight through city streets, to a traditional BBEG monster showdown at the end of a story arc. Most of all, the Doa game world is built to give players a chance to sink their teeth into a truly enormous story. Players that love creating, playing, and bringing to life a character you will remember for a lifetime will find a warm, inviting, and occasionally heartbreaking home in the world of Doa.

Homebrew rules

Exhaustion: For each point of exhaustion, PCs take a -1 penalty to all d20 rolls. A long rest removes 1 point of exhaustion. A long rest in a comfortable bed removes 1 point. A full day of rest (8 hours of sleep) removes 2 points. A full day of rest out of danger while sleeping in a bed removes 4 points. Hit Points (Leveling)When rolling Hit Points on level up, the minimum you can take is half the hit die + 1. Critical Hits (Natural 20s)Critical hits deal maximum weapon damage + any bonus weapon dice. Example: A 1d12 + 2 weapon crits for 14 + 1d12. Natural 20s on skill checks grant the best possible outcome (but are not automatic successes). Healing PotionsDrinking a potion as a Bonus Action: Roll the healing dice normally. Drinking a potion as a full Action: Heals the maximum amount. Falling to 0 HPWhen you drop to 0 hit points and fall unconscious, you gain 1 level of exhaustion (representing trauma). This exhaustion is removed normally with a long rest. Inspiration (Well Rested / Well Fed)If the party has slept in a comfortable bed and eaten well-prepared food, they gain Inspiration that lasts until their next long rest. Inspiration is not gained if suffering from exhaustion or the ill effects of travel. Medicine Skill (First Aid)Requires a healer’s kit. During a short rest, you can make a DC 15 Medicine check to administer first aid. On success, the target regains 2d4 hit points. A creature can only benefit from first aid once per long rest. Magic Items & AttunementYou may attune to a number of magic items equal to your proficiency bonus. You cannot wear more than one magic item of the same type (except you may wear up to two rings). DM Inspiration: For epic actions, outstanding roleplay, or making the DM laugh (coffee-out-the-nose level), you receive 1d6 Inspiration dice. These dice do not stack — use them or lose them.
