About the adventure
Lucent Odyssey is a Dungeons and Dragons 5e custom game that is an open-ended, hex crawl, Oregon Trail style adventure! You'll gather supplies and hit the trail, traversing the large sprawling passage that is split into four distinct regions. You'll discover diverse locations, helping out those in need, and liberate the radiant wells in each region to maintain equilibrium in this perilous world. Surrounding Jaydra is the Celestial Cradle, a series of interconnected rings that are home to the vast wilds that cover their surface. It is here that your journey will take shape. Contacted by a muse ambassador, the party has been selected to serve as 'Lightbearers' and bring harmony to one of the most dangerous regions of the cradle: The Forlorn Passage ➤ Oregon Trail meets D&D: Survival plays a heavier role in this campaign as every player will need to be mindful of their resources they take along with them. Take care of a party wagon using an assortment of mounts and upgrades. Yes, there is dysentery! ➤ Explore an open-ended, hex-crawl world at your own pace: The Forlorn Passage awaits with four diverse areas, each of which boast over a dozen sites of interest for curious players to discover. The decision of where to go and what to do next is yours! Tackle objectives or side quests at your own pace. ➤ Enjoy a unique custom experience: Work together as a party to keep the Harmonic Flux within the region in check. Hunt for elusive magical insects that give your group powerful boons. Dare to face powerful roaming regional bosses, and more!

About me

Creating your character
Character creation will be discussed via Discord during Session 0. Players will be creating a character starting at level 2 using any of the official material available from places such as D&DBeyond (Which I will provide). Homebrew options potentially allowed. Expect your characters to grow to level 6, with potential to go further if certain in game objectives are met. Once created I will ask for either a link or pdf to your character sheet before our first official game session.
Ready to hit the trail? Be ready to start your pilgrimage every Tuesday 8PM EST. Please be aware that should the minimum 3 player slots not be met an hour before our first session I will cancel and reschedule another game so you are not charged. Please be sure to message me if you have any requests/questions, I'll respond asap.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
All players require a clear working mic and a stable internet connection. Video is not necessary but always appreciated (it's nice to see the faces of the people you're talking to). All players should have a basic understanding of the rules (Basic 5th edition rules can be found online for free), and I will do my best to assist when questions arise. Roll20 as well as Discord account (both free) are necessary. Basic familiarity with Roll20 heavily encouraged.
What Gawd Mode brings to the table
We will be largely using Roll20, expect high quality maps for both exploration and combat as well as plenty of music/ambience to help build the mood. Access to rulebooks and content provided when needed. Players will receive all custom rules in order to familiarize themselves with our game mechanics.
Homebrew rules
Open Ended Hexcrawl - Go anywhere, do anything. You choose where to explore and traverse next. Questing - There’s a quest board carrying various tasks for those brave enough to take part for their rewards at each Helper's Hand Guild. Stables/Draft Exchange - The party's wagon and draft animals/creatures are safely stored in the stables, where players may purchase additional draft feed (per day). They may also find and use their available draft tokens to switch out mounts while stabled here. Wagon Upgrades - The Helper’s Hand Guild will offer you the opportunity to upgrade your wagon. Once purchased, an upgrade can be freely switched in and out at the party’s convenience using any Helper’s Hand Guild. Elated & Forlorn Conditions - Every new day in the Passage brings with it both exciting opportunities and unfortunate circumstances. Occasionally, these situations may begin to affect your character for better or for worse. Harmonic Flux - The sound of harmony is the key to keeping a balanced equilibrium within the Forlorn Passage. If too much dissonance transpires the overall Harmonic Flux will begin to fall, and your travels will become that much more imposing. By carrying out acts of harmony the party can work to keep as much danger at bay as possible. Golden Gleetlekin Collecting - Golden gleetlekin can be attuned to the wagon to enhance nearby allies, or traded in at Scuttle Shrines for unique rewards. There are 12 total species of Golden Gleetlekin that can be found. Try to collect them all! Foraging & Hunting - Characters can gather food, water, and repair resources as the party rests. If multiple characters hunt or forage at the same time, they go as a team to make a check together instead of doing so independently to speed up the process.

How Gawd Mode creates a safe table
Expect a fairly laid back experience set in a homebrew world. We will be using a fair amount of homebrew mechanics on top of the standard D&D 5.5e rules system. I love to bring player actions to life, even during combat to help weave imagery in our minds. I tend to be pretty laid back in terms of allowing players to engage with the world however they wish, provided it does not impede on the fun of others at the virtual table. Will try to stick to the Rules as Written when possible, but plenty of opportunities to use the Rule of Cool. PC romance between NPC's is allowed with a fade-to-black principle for any hard romance scenes. PC romance between PC's is typically not encouraged unless discussed beforehand and both parties consent. Evil characters are not allowed for this campaign. Expect occasional, brief post session chats to discuss player feelings and iron out any issues during the session. If I notice a player issue I will speak with them privately to work it out, but will not hesitate in removing that person if they continue to be a problem for the table. Ensuring a welcoming, fun and positive atmosphere is an absolute must for my players. During Session 0 we will introduce ourselves, discuss the expectations and general rules of the game along with potential homebrew options, share information about the homebrew plane and begin to build your characters. We will start at level 3, with any official race/class option available, as well as homebrew options provided I give the okay. We will also use this time to discuss the intro to the campaign story to build player buy-in and help everyone plot out your own character backgrounds + potential story threads you'd like to see in the future for your character. Content warnings will be discussed during this session, expect the normal range found in most high fantasy worlds.
